Chapter 121 Let’s Get Divorced, Nicholas (2)

The hospital room was empty. There was no one around to answer his calls.

“Nancy! Nancy…” Nicholas shouted again and again, but the only response he received was unending silence..

He panicked. Then, he frantically ran to the nurse’s station with the flowers in his arms. “Hi, where’s the patient

from room 106?”

The nurse checked the records and asked, “Do you mean Ms. Cohen, Mr. Sallow?”

“Yes. That’s her. Where is she?”

“Ms. Cohen was discharged earlier. She’s gone now.”

“Come again?” He could not believe his ears.

For the past few days, he had stayed by her side every single day. In the first two days, she had stubbornly given

him the cold shoulder. Then, in the last few days, she changed.

She no longer rejected the things he bought for her. When he talked to her, she would respond. The day before, she

was even smiling more than before.

All those changes had led him to drop his guard, thinking she was slowly recovering.

Now that he thought about it, she had never gotten past that trauma. All of her changes and responses were faked

for him to see so he would be less wary.

He pulled out his phone and called Lynn. “Search the entire city for Nancy.”

“Right away, Mr. Sallow.”

There was no doubt about the Sallow Group’s efficiency. So, Lynn had an answer for him within 10 minutes. “Ms.

Nancy booked a room at a hotel, Mr. Sallow. I’ll send you the address right now.”

Hence, Nicholas rushed over to the hotel with the address in hand.

15 minutes later, he knocked on the hotel door.

When he saw Nancy’s familiar face, he grabbed her wrist in relief. “Why did you leave on your own?”

“It was time to leave the hospital. Naturally, I need to make room for the other patients who need the bed.”

In contrast to his panic and frantic demeanor, she was unusually calm.

Not only that, but she also seemed very composed about how fast Nicholas could find her. She did not seem

surprised at all.

After all, it was incredibly easy for the Sallows to find a person staying in a hotel. She had known Nicholas would find

her soon enough. She did not plan on running away anyway. Instead, she had been waiting for him.

“I said I would be there to pick you up. Why didn’t you wait for me?”

When Nicholas realized he had raised his voice at her, he instinctively lowered his voice.

She simply rewarded him with a cold chuckle. “Is that so? Thank you for the generous offer, Mr. Sallow, but I can no

longer tell if you’re lying or telling the truth.”

“I’ve always told you the truth, Nancy,” he blurted.

She looked up and gently shoved his hand away from her wrist. “You’ve always told the truth?”

“Perhaps you did, but if something happened to Madelline, if she fell sick or got hurt, you would leave right away to

her side. I was only getting discharged from the hospital. It’s a simple procedure, I can do it myself. There was no

need to wait for you.”

Anyway, she did not want to trouble him at all.

“You’re still angry, aren’t you?” he tentatively asked.

“Ah, you’re such a joker, Mr. Sallow. What right do I have to be angry at you? I’m not angry at all.”

She had merely given up. She refused to continue living in denial and didn’t want to foolishly give him one more

chance after another.

“I’m sorry, Nancy. I didn’t know you were actually in a car crash. I didn’t know how much danger you were in. If I

had known…”

She interrupted him, saying, “There’s no need to say anything. It is all in the past. There’s no use in talking about it

anymore. We’re all adults, Nicholas. Learn to take responsibility for your own decisions. Since you chose her without

hesitation, you don’t need to apologize to me.

“You can’t turn back the clock. In that case, all we can do is to avoid letting the mistake continue to affect us and

stop the bleeding while we still can.”

Then, she leaned over to grab a document from nearby to throw onto the table. Her icy eyes turned back to him.

“That’s why we need to let each other go and part on good terms.”

He was all too familiar with what was on the table.

He had even drafted it himself the first time.

In the few short months since then, their entire relationship was flipped on its head. This time, she was the one who

drafted the divorce papers. She was the one who was proposing a divorce.

He leaned over and picked up the document with trembling fingers.

His fingers were shaking so hard that he could barely hold onto the papers.

Although he could make an educated guess on what the document was, it still felt like a distant dream unless he

actually read it for himself.

When the words “Divorce Settlement Agreement” appeared before his eyes, he felt as though his hands had lost all

feeling. His heart felt like it was cracking in half as inis entire body was overwhelmed by agony.

Why did it hurt so much?

It felt much more painful than he imagined.

A divorce settlement agreement?

But… They had said they would continue to live together as a family.

How did it come to this?

Why?

Did they not promise to grow old together?

“You’re really sure?” he asked with great difficulty, looking up at her.

“Yes.” She nodded.

Compared to his pain and sorrow, she looked unusually relaxed and not at all, upset.

“Flip to the back. I’ve already signed the papers. It just needs your signature. Then, it will be in effect from the

moment you do. You’ll be free, released from being bothered and chained down. by me.”

“I didn’t bring any dowry with me when I married you, and I didn’t bring anything valuable with me. All I had were a

few sets of clothing. Plus, I don’t think I brought any monetary value to the table in the two years since I married

you. Don’t worry. I won’t ask for anything from you. Oh, don’t worry, I don’t want your money, your assets, or any

of the Sallows’ assets.”

She thought he would be happy to hear her say that. If he was happy, he might sign the document right away.

Nevertheless, she did not think his face would instantly turn dark, gloomy, and increasingly frigid.

“Nancy…” He looked at her as he spat out through gritted teeth, “Do you really want to cut off all ties between us?”

“Is that not what you wanted? I’m giving you what you want.”

He swiftly flipped through the divorce agreement as his chest puffed up in anger like a roaring lion. When he found

the page where he was meant to sign, he picked up the pen to sign the document with broad strokes.

When she saw how he did not even hesitate for a second before signing the agreement, a glimmer of pain flashed

in her eyes.

The pain soon passed. So, she reached out to accept the signed document.

Alas, just as she was reaching out for the papers, he suddenly shredded the divorce settlement agreement into tiny

pieces. His actions also sent the shredded pieces flying everywhere.

Then, he stared at her with sharp eyes through the cloud of shredded papers. “I will never divorce. you, Nancy!”
