Chapter 969 They say you reap what you sow, and Everett was feeling it hard. Clutching his chest, he wore a tic pout. "Selena, this tit really hurts. I'm heartbroken..." Selena's lips curled into the tiniest hint of a smile, though she kept her expression purposely icy. "You better take care of yourself. If you don't bounce back soon, I might just meet syoung, strong heartthrob, fall head over heels, and have a whirlwind wedding." "After all, Mr. Everett... you're not getting any younger and might not be the prhusband material." "You..." Everett was frustrated, his lips moving but failing to form any sharp retort. What if he said something rash and scared her off again? Plus, with Selena's quick wit, he'd never win a verbal sparring match.

With that in mind, there was only one thing left to do.

In a swift move, Everett grabbed her shoulders and eased her onto the soft mattress, being careful of her abdomen. He leaned down, silencing her with a kiss that was both tender and infuriating.

Selena, wary of his injury, didn't resist much. Under his persistence, she gradually relaxed, letting him have his way.

At the door, Ava stifled a giggle, gently closing it with a smile.

Turning to the little ones, she fibbed effortlessly, "Mateo, Haley, your mom and dad are resting. Let's not bother them. We'll check in on Dad tomorrow." Mateo tilted his head. "Can I just sneak a peek?" Ava shook her head. "Ava will bring you back tomorrow, okay? Daddy might get upset if you go in now." Mateo looked puzzled, but Ava simply grinned, taking Mateo's hand and scooping up Haley as they walked away.

Fast forward a month, and Everett was finally discharged from the hospital.

His wounds had mostly healed, though the scars remained. He still needed plenty of rest, with any potential surgery at least a year or so away.

His heart, however, required regular check-ups. Unlike a normal heart his mechanical one needed maintenance, much like any machine that could glitch with overuse.

Fortunately, Callum's team was working tirelessly on this. Bennett Corporation had previously backed them with funding and talent, and advancements in 3D medical printing were continuously refining mechanical hearts.

On this day, Selena accompanied Everett to Dr. Campbell's lab for a check-up.

Through the glass, she watched Everett cooperate with the medical staff as they ran various tests. The monitors nearby displayed data about his heart.

Though not perfect, it was functioning well.

Callum approached with a cup of coffee, handing it to her. Selena accepted it, taking a sip.

Callum smiled. "Selena, you can relax now. Everett is truly extraordinary. His physical condition has overcmany of our technical Challenges. Most importantly, every other case involving a mechanical heart resulted in emotional detachment. Everett is the only one who managed to develop emotions with a mechanical heart." Callum paused, then added, "It seems love can indeed create life from steel and circuits." Selena gazed at Everett, a soft smile gracing her lips.

In that moment, her once-battered heart seemed to heal, and she finally regained the ability to love. After the check-up, Everett emerged, and Selena smiled at him.

"Everett, let's go home."

Everett walked over, intertwining his fingers with hers. "Alright, darling, let's head home.
