Chapter 827 Joy gazed at Everett with hopeful eyes, but his handsface remained as unreadable as ever. He was as detached as a stranger. "Mother, Joy and I just aren't meant to be. She's like a sister to me, and calling off the engagement won't stop her from finding someone else. As for my own marriage, there's no need for you to worry about it anymore." Carolina's eyebrows shot up in surprise. "Everett, what are you trying to say?" Everett let out a small, mocking laugh, choosing not to answer. He didn't spare Joy another glance as he picked up the coat the waiter handed him and strode out of the room without a backward glance.

Carolina sank back into her chair, feeling defeated. Even though Everett hadn't spelled it out, she knew exactly what he meant. He'd made up his mind. He'd either stay single or get back together with Selena. After all the twists and turns, he was going back to his old flame! All her careful plans had been for nothing.
Why couldn't he see that someone from such a simple background could never truly fit into their world, no matter how well she dressed? It was sheer madness! When Abraham walked into the private room, Joy was the only one left. She was sprawled on the sofa, clutching a whiskey bottle and drinking it like it was water. Empty bottles were scattered around, proof of her heavy drinking.
She was drinking and crying, her sobs tearing through the air as if she'd lost everything she held dear. Abraham had already heard the whole story from their parents on his way over. He marched right up to her, yanked the bottle from her hand, and said sharply, "That's enough. Get a grip on yourself!" Joy looked up at him with bleary eyes, her crying only getting louder. "You're my brother, my real brother! I'm heartbroken, and instead of comforting me, you're scolding me... boo hoo..." Of course, Abraham's heart ached for his sister. But tears wouldn't solve anything; they only signified surrender and weakness. His sister couldn't be this helpless.

The icy shock jolted her out of her haze, and Joy screamed. "What are you doing, brother?" He let go of the faucet, crossed his arms, and looked at her. "Feeling sober now?" Joy leaned against the wall, tears still brimming in her eyes, looking utterly miserable. After a moment, Abraham's tough exterior softened, and he wiped her tears away.
"Stop crying. If you really want Everett, I'll make sure he comes begging for you. Happy now?" Joy blinked in surprise, the meaning of his words sinking in, and looked at Abraham with renewed determination. "Do you really have a plan?" Abraham's lips curled into a mischievous smile. "Just wait and see."
He intended to topple Everett from his high horse and deliver him to his to hi sister on a platter. She could mold him however she pleased. And as for Selena... she'd bechis plaything, too.
Late at night, after tucking her child into bed, Selena returned to her room, took a shower, drie her hair, and swallowed a handful of pills before slipping under the covers, trying to coax herself into sleep.
She didn't know how much thad passed when she finally drifted off, only to be startled awake by the bed dipping! A strong arm wrapped around her slender waist, pulling her into a warm embrace. Her breath hitched. "Everett?"
