Chapter Fourteen

Amber's POV.

“Stop the car for a while, Richard,” | requested, not confident that | could respond the way | wanted to if the car

was in motion.

Thankfully, he didn’t seem to have a problem with my request, as he quickly drove into a corner and parked the

car.

“Do you have an answer?” he asked.

“Look at me.” | demanded, and he obeyed.

“Good,” | muttered. “Now listen, Richard, all my life, | have always been seen as the gullible and easy-to-please

one because of how much | accepted and looked away from a lot of bullshit. | have been

disrespected, cheated on, abandoned, and humiliated by the people | loved and thought lovedas well. | am

barely hanging on right now, and if | wasn’t such a weakling. | probably would have ended

myself by now. That's how distraught and destroyed | feel.”

“But then you showed up and offered to help me. You offered to givea last nthat would put me

in a position to get back at everyone who made a fool ofand turnedinto this person that | detest so

much. So think about it, Richard. How ready do you think | am to get my revenge? If you

think my revenge ends with marrying you and climbing up the social ladder, well, you're wrong, sir.”

“I want blood. | want to break Kayden and make him fall to my feet, helpless and at his worst. | want

Marlene to suffer humiliation, rejection, and pure agony to the point where | won't mind her killing

herself. As for my family, | want them to lose everything they have and be sent into extrpoverty

and dejection. So to answer your question, there's nothing | want more than to see those people ruined

and I'll make sure | ruin them myself. And just so you know, you're nothing but a stepping stone to

me,” | said, making myself as clear as possible.

The only thing | could think of while answering his question was how much joy watching Kayden and Marlene fall

from their high horse would bring me.

| would have never thought of myself as somebody who could possess such thoughts, but right now, | am

completely blinded by revenge.

“Now you look at me, Amber. If I'm your stepping stone, so be it. I'll be your stepping stone and you'll be my

weapon. I'll use you to take down Kayden, and | want you to know that once you start

whatever power that bastard still has over you. No more tears, no more doubt, and most importantly, don’t care

about

seriousness in hile and what they might or might not say. Do you understand?” he instructed, the

tone mirroring mine..

“Understood,” | answered, mentally making a promise to myself that | would never shed another tear

over Kayden and Marlene ever again.

“Good,” he simply said, before starting the car again and driving out of the corner.

The rest of the car ride had been extremely quiet, with neither of us having anything to say. | took

the tto gather my thoughts, and it wasn’t until my thoughts were settled that it dawned onthat | was

currently headed to Richard's house.

I had no idea where he lived or what his house looked like, but it madenervous to think that |

was visiting his place for the first time, and when | realized that | was dressed like a complete

idiot, | immediately felt embarrassed.

If truly he had paparazzi at his place and they took pictures ofwith him, I'd most likely give off the

impression that | was spoor woman who managed to bag a billionaire boyfriend.

And even though | wasn’t exactly poor, | also couldn't be classified as being rich either. | had gullibly signed a

prenup when | married Kayden, so after our divorce, he was heartless enough to leavewith nothing. Not like |

wanted anything from him anyway.

While | was lost in my thoughts, | didn’t realize when we arrived in front of a huge-looking house that had put my

old house with Kayden to shame.

Richard slowly drove in through the gates, and | instinctively adjusted my hoodie to make sure my

face was well hidden.

As soon as we drove in fully, Richard parked halfway before turning to look at me.

“We'll cdown from here so, they can get a good picture,” he explained, and | nodded in understanding

before stepping out of the car.

| looked up

at the building, taking in how beautiful it was, but only briefly, so I didn’t make it obvious that it was my first

tseeing such a house. | already looked out of place with the way | was dressed, and | didn’t think it was right

to match my very plain dress sense to my reaction as

After Richard stepped out, a lanky-looking man would rush up to him immediately. “Good evening, Mi Romero,”

he greeted, noticinga few seconds later.

“Good evening, madam,” he greeted again, and | simply nodded to acknowledge his greeting.

“Hero, meet my girlfriend, Amber. Amber, meet my gatekeeper, Hero,” Richard introduced, and after hearing the

man’s name, | had to bite my tongue to avoid laughing out loud.

“It’s nice meeting you, Miss Amber,” he politely said.

“Likewise, Hero,” | managed to respond, not exactly sure how else to react to him.

| personally had a feeling that the only reason Richard bothered to introduceto Hero was becaus he was

stylishly trying to get us to waste more tby the gate so that whoever was taking pictures. would have more

than enough evidence.

“Let's go, sweetheart,” Richard suddenly said, putting his hand out for me..

Despite the fact that | was mentally cringing at being called sweetheart, | shook off my discomfort,

walked up to him, and took his hand in mine.

With one last look at Hero, Richard and | walked in the direction of the house, our fingers

intertwined.

“This is so weird,” | whispered, wanting nothing more than to pull my fingers away from his.

“Well, get used to it, Amber, dear, because, in the coming weeks, we're going to be doing a lot more than just

holding hands,” he responded, and the thought of doing a lot more with him suddenly made m

heart skip a beat.
