The last spell he cast—[Lightning Ball], was channelled rather hurriedly and his mind and mana core were still under some strain so he couldn't cast a boost spell like [Lightning Dash] yet.
However, even his normal speed wasn't slow and was quite fast so it didn't like long before he closed in on her.
While he might not be able to cast a more complex spell like [Lightning Dash], there was a spell he would definitely be able to cast. "Lightning Stun!" He shouted. Lightning sparked between his fingertips, rapidly spreading until it coated all his fingers.
Since he was already so close to his opponent, he stretched his hand forwards, hoping to grab then shock or rather, electrocute her using the spell.
His hand was already so close to her when she suddenly raised her head and then shouted: "Light Flash!"
A bright white light suddenly 'exploded' right in between the brown-haired Elementalist's eyes, making him close his eyes instinctively.
The flash of light was so bright that it blinded his eyes temporarily, forcing him to stop in his tracks.
He groaned as his hands moved subconsciously to his eyes, or rather glasses. Even with the intense fight going on, he still hadn't taken them off.
Unlike the first time the black-haired girl used the spell, this time he was a lot closer to her so the effect of the spell was twice more than it was the last time.
Apart from that, he was caught off-guard this time because he hadn't expected her to cast a spell right at that moment.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtBy the time he finally recovered and opened his eyes back, her figure had already vanished from his sight.
"Light Ball!" A loud tiny voice suddenly came from his side.
'Shit.' He mumbled inwardly as he quickly turned around.
His gaze met with that of the light elementalist who already had her hand stretched out with a bright white ball hovering above her palm.
Sam didn't think of any other thing as he hurriedly channelled his mana in preparation for a counterspell.
Lightning blitzed above his palm, rapidly merging into a ball.
The light Elementalist also didn't wait for him to complete his spell as she launched the ball of light in her hand.
"Lightning Ball!" Sam screamed as he also launched the incomplete Lightning ball in his hands.
Both attacks travelled towards each other with astonishing speed, with the lightning ball increasing in size with every passing second, however, the light ball was still faster when it came to speed.
They immediately collided against themselves with full force, creating a small, beautiful explosion of bright white light mixed with some sparks of blue lightning.
Most of the second years were wowed as they stared at the beautiful scene of light and lightning mixed together, their attention was taken away from the two Elementalists on the stage and placed on the beautiful and comical expression.
However, that wonderful scene soon vanished as the light and lightning dispersed into the atmosphere, much to the disappointment of the students.
With the explosion dispersed, the two Elementalists now had a clear view of each other.
Sam's brows were furrowed as he faced off with the opponent, his right hand was pulled back and he channelled his elemental mana for another spell.
Though he tried not to show any weakness, his mana reserves had already dropped and he doubted he could cast any more than three spells before running out of gas.
His breathing was already bated and beads of sweat pooled around his face.
But it seemed like he wasn't the only one exhausted as the black-haired girl was even in worse condition when compared to him.
Her eyes seemed out of focus and her chest rose heavily, her face was glistening with sweat and her gaze alternated between Sam and the blue-haired instructor.
Suddenly she raised her hand to the instructor in charge of the fight, asking for surrender.
The instructor rushed towards her without even wasting a second, he already knew what was wrong with her and why she had surrendered.
She had obviously exhausted herself and could lose consciousness at any moment. Even if she hadn't, he would have stopped the fight himself.
He held her weak figure and hurriedly fed her with a healing and mana recovery pill.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmWhat she was facing was mana exhaustion. Compared to Sam, she had expended a lot more mana in this fight.
Controlling the 'light dust' drained her of a lot of mana, since she had to move her elemental mana out of her body and then use them to push and control the dust particles.
It wasn't the wisest of decisions but back then, it seemed like it was. However, things turned around with sam not only escaping the spell but also attacking her, rendering all those efforts useless and also leading to her current state.
Her elemental mana wasn't completely exhausted, but it was already very low and she could feel the consequence weighing down on her mind and body.
There was a reason Elementalists and even mages dreaded complete mana exhaustion. Complete mana exhaustion was when both the affinity orbs and mana core were completely drained of mana.
The mana core and affinity orbs were connected and linked directly with a person's soul and draining any of them—especially the mana core—completely would place a huge strain on the soul which would then negatively affect the body.
It was never to be underestimated as it could lead to death if care wasn't taken, so elementalists always took caution so as to not exhaust the mana in their mana core or affinity orb.
The light Elementalist's face rapidly regained colour as she slowly opened her eyes. It only took a few seconds for the pill to restore her to her peak condition.
The blue-haired man heaved a sigh in relief when he noticed that the light elementalist was okay. "Sam Wins!" He announced as he faced the audience.
Murmurings immediately erupted from the crowd of students, some of them were simply the Lightning Elementalists bragging about how their hall was the best while the rest were simply about the fight in general.
Meanwhile, Harry simply remained on his own without taking part in the murmurings or braggings going on around him.
He was more concerned about what happened with the girl since he had been tracking their stats with [Probe], he saw how low her mana got before she gave up.
'So I guess that's how I'll also end up if my energy also gets exhausted.' He mumbled inwardly while making a mental note to avoid such a situation.
