“Lacey, why are you so sure that Mark was the one who leaked it to the press?” Ellie poured Lacey a glass of

water, worriedly looking at her.

Lacey was completely overwhelmed! She sat at the conference table, elbows resting on it, hands holding her

head.

“I know it was him!” Lacey’s voice was muffled, but her tone was sure.

Ellie sat beside Lacey, pulling her hand down. “Lacey, don’t you know what kind of person Mark is?”

Ellie said, “By making a scene like this, what will happen to Mark's reputation?!”

Lacey pouted, eyes red. She looked at Ellie, still firm in her words: “Ellie, you don’t know, to stopfrom getting

a divorce, he secretly investigated Sebastian. He toldthat Sebastian has an illegitimate child hidden in the

countryside!”

Lacey said, “He actually investigated Sebastian secretly, saying Sebastian was evading taxes, and slandering

Sebastian's character in front of me!”

“So, you're sure Mark is the one who leaked the news?!” Ellie never expected that Mark, busy as he is, would

have tto investigate Sebastian. Seems like Mark really cares about Lacey.

“He slandered Sebastian for just a few days, and then Sebastian's illegitimate child scandal broke. Who else

could it be?”

Ellie had been trying to convince her for a while, but Lacey remained stubborn. Ellie didn’t know how to persuade

her

anymore.

‘Family matters are always complicated, and it’s clear to everyone that Mark likes Lacey. Even saints act selfishly

when it comes to love, let alone ordinary people, Ellie thought.

She wondered, ‘If Mark wants to fight for Lacey, secretly investigating Sebastian could be possible, but even if he

did that, I still couldn't believe that Mark leaked it to the press.”

“Lacey, listen to me, no matter whether this is true or not, you shouldn't be making a scene with Mark in the

hospital,” Ellie said. “You've been living with him for half a year, and as a doctor, you know how important

emotional stability before surgery is!”

Lacey still clung to her own view: “His career matters, but doesn’t Sebastian’s career matter?”

Lacey said, “As soon as this news broke, Sebastian’s career took a huge hit. This morning he called me, saying

Lacey continued, “He’s got several movies scheduled for release, and now there's no news. If this isn’t resolved

properly, his career will be ruined! Ellie, you have no idea how important reputation is in the entertainment

industry!”

“Sebastian's reputation matters, but doesn’t Mark's reputation matter?” Ellie asked her.

“The things you said in the meeting room will be all over the hospital by tomorrow morning. Even Mark's circle

will know. His own wife, for a male star, barged into his meeting room, yelled at him in front of his teacher and

colleagues, calling him manipulative and backstabbing.”

Ellie continued, “In front of everyone, his wife says she’d rather choose a man with an illegitimate child than her

own husband. How do you think he feels?”

“Lacey, letask you, even now, in front of me, you're still defending Sebastian. Have you thought about how

awkward Mark must feel inside? How strong must he be to explain everything in front of everyone, pretending

everything's fine and continuing to work?”

Lacey was left speechless by Ellie's barrage of questions. For a moment, she didn’t know what to say.

As Lacey passed by the meeting room where Mark was, he happened to cout.

Their eyes met, and Mark walked straight up to Lacey in front of everyone. “Have you calmed down?”

Lacey lowered her head and nodded.

Mark reached out and adjusted Lacey's coat collar. “Go hand rest.”

Lacey grabbed Mark's arm, unsure of what to say, her previous strong attitude now gone.

Mark pulled his arm away.

Though his tone remained gentle, it was no longer the affectionate way he usually spoke to her. Instead, he gave

her shoulder a light tap. “Dr. Thompson, could you please take my wife home?”

Even after all this, Mark still gave Lacey dignity and rushed to the elevator with a few colleagues.

Lacey instinctively touched her nose, and Ellie pulled her into a different elevator.

After about 40 minutes, Ellie stopped her car by the side of the road and rushed into a supermarket. Soon,

Taking the escalator, Ellie went up to the second floor. Just as she was about to hide in the women’s restroom,

Knowing it was Alex, Ellie felt a sense of relief, but her tense nerves were immediately on edge again.

“Wrap your legs around me,” Alex said softly, biting Ellie's ear.

Ellie reluctantly wrapped her legs around Alex's neck as he tucked his head into her neck.

The intimate position made Ellie uncomfortable, so she pushed Alex's head away. “Behave, or I'd rather take the

risk and go

outside!”

Just as she tried to pull away, Alex lifted her and held her firmly.

“Behave, or I'll do it right now,” Alex said, deliberately stressing the last two words.
