Chapter 300 @80% 13 No matter how much Justin shouted behind her, Ellie just set down his dinner and turned to leave.

Living in the scity, bumping into Alex was inevitable. However, she didn't need to talk to him, nor did she need to have any more interactions with him. There was no need for anger, sadness, or anything else. She just had to ignore him.

Back at her apartment, Ellie walked into the living room, her eyes landing on the many supplements scattered around. She stepped over to the balcony and asked, “Aaron, did we have guests today?" Aaron, who was mopping the floor, paused. "Mr. Grant cby to check on Mom. He also brought sstudy materials for your graduate exams." Ellie froze when she heard Aaron mention Mark's name. She had completely forgotten, but Mark had messaged her earlier to say he would cto visit her mom. She hadn't expected him to cby before she got off work. Aaron and Ellie stood on the balcony, staring out at the city lights below. Finally, Aaron broke the silence. "Ellie, what do you think of Mr. Grant?" Ellie could hear the underlying hint of curiosity in Aaron's tone. She turned to look at him with a serious expression. "I've learned my lesson the hard way. I won't make the smistakes again. I'm not going to try anything reckless." They stared at each other in silence. After a long pause, Ellie continued, "Right now, I just want to focus on my work and preparing for grad school. I'm not thinking about anything else for now.

"Besides, Mark already has a crush on someone. He's just trying to build a medical team and wantsto collaborate with him. Don't overthink it, okay?" Ellie did her best to explain, not wanting Aaron to misunderstand or worry. She had been through enough to learn her lesson.

She was just an ordinary woman who couldn't have children, with no career to boast about and no influential family background. She didn't think she had the right to talk about love or marriage.

They both stayed quiet for a while longer, until Aaron finally spoke, "Focusing on your career sounds good. You're still young, and there's so much ahead of you." Aaron gazed at his only sister, his eyes filled with tenderness. “With how advanced medicine is now, maybe your illness is all just a false alarm after all." Ellie forced a faint smile and nodded in agreement. She also wished that it was just a false alarm.

However, the results of her medical test were already there, and as a doctor, she knew exactly what that meant. She understood it better than anyone. Unless skind of medical miracle happened, there was no hope for a cure.

Ellie's downcast mood was palpable, and it didn't go unnoticed by Aaron: He quickly tried to change the subject. "Listen to me, Ellie. As long as you work hard enough, you can becwhoever you want to be.

"You have to love yourself and stay true to yourself. Even if things aren't always perfect, it's okay." Ellie looked at Aaron, having tears in her eyes. She felt lucky to have such a wonderful brother by her side for the road ahead.

Aaron, you're different. You'll definitely meet a wonderful girl," Ellie said, her voice trembling without her realizing it.

Aaron said with a bitter smile, "Right now, I don't have a house, a car, or any savings K'd just be a burden to my partner." I lie shook her head. “Not all girls are materialistic. You're so outstanding; you'll definitely be happy."

The next day at work, Ellie walked into her office to find a cute mug on her desk. It was only when She checked her messages that she realized it was from her classmate, Leonard.

Ellie and Leonard had been classmates back in high schoolland later ended up in the scity and the smajor for college.
