Chapter 157 As soon as Nancy stepped into the hall, chaos erupted. Haley stared in disbelief as Nancy walked toward her, nervously taking a step behind Alex for cover.
Ellie hadn't expected Nancy to show up. Watching the scene unfold, she opened her mouth but froze in place. "Ellie?!" Alex gripped Ellie's arm, a look of anger on his face. "I warned you not to play any tricks!" Ellie knew Alex was mistaking Nancy for someone she'd called over. She forced a smile and chose not to explain. Nancy pushed Alex aside and pulled Ellie's hand, standing boldly in front of the crowd. "It's true that I have a daughter, but since when do I have a daughter-in-law named Haley?" Nancy's words sent shockwaves through the room. Haley's face turned pale, her eyes pleading with Alex for help.

Alex shot back, "She's not!" Nancy continued, "Your fiancée is Diana, and your engagement has nothing to do with the Owens family!" 19 Alex clenched Haley's hand tightly, raising it for everyone to see the engagement ring on her finger. "I'm marrying Haley, and nothing you do will change that!" Once again, the room was thrown into chaos, flashbulbs popping as reporters shouted questions in rapid succession. Ellie quietly stood beside Nancy, letting Nancy hold her hand as she listened to Alex's firm declaration to Haley.
Nancy shot a fierce glare at her son. "If you insist on being with a whore, don't takeas your mother anymore!" Alex was left speechless, his anger simmering.
Haley stood by Alex, her expression turning ashen. She squeezed her fists tightly at her sides, her nails digging into her skin in frustration.
'She would rather cut ties with her own son than letinto the Warren family!' Haley thought bitterly.
Nancy turned to Haley, her voice dripping with challenge. "Haley, letbe clear. If you dare to hurt my daughter again in any way, I will make sure you regret it even if I get my hands dirty!" Haley, trying to hold her ground, shot back, "I can accept any misunderstanding you have about me, but can't you at least show srespect for your own son?" Nancy laughed coldly. "Respect? Respect him for bringing ha piece of trash like you?!" Haley paled at Nancy's words, completely at a loss for words.
"You think you can get into the Warren family? Not unless I'm dead!" With that, Nancy took Ellie's hand and, flanked by bodyguards, made her exit as the crowd erupted into more chaos.

Two days later, Ellic awoke to Aaron's call early in the morning. He told her that his workplace had confirmed he'd be back to work after Thanksgiving. Finally, the weight that had been hanging in the air lifted from her chest.
Tomorrow was Thanksgiving, and Aaron was going hto pick up their parents. Ellie stayed behind to clean up and prepare for the holiday. Once her parents arrived, she would have a serious discussion with them and Aaron about joining the Warren family.
This time, thanks to Alex's parents, she and Aaron had managed to dodge the storm that was brewing. She realized she could no longer keep avoiding; it was tto learn how to use the resources around her and leverage her situation.
Haley had made a complete mess of things; not only had she ruined her m own reputation but she hadaß dragged the Owens family business into turmoil. People like her never reflect on their mistakes; they'd only think of ways to retaliate. Relying on the influence and status of the Warren family for protection was Ellie's only option right now. If she couldn't avoid this, then she needed to face it head-on.
Ellie placed her newly bought slippers on the shoe rack and went to prepare dinner for her parents. She didn't want to think about anything else for now; she just wanted to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday with her family.
