Chapter 995: Oliver's Poisoning Tina frowned. Her instincts told her that for Oliver to speak those words, something serious must have happened.
She questioned him, "Why do you wantto leave?" "Oliver, tell me, where are you feeling unwell?" When Oliver remained silent once again, Tina moved closer to check his wrist.
As she expected, Oliver frantically pulled away. His voice trembled, almost breaking into sobs. "Don't touch me! If you touch me, you'll get sick like me." Tina narrowed her eyes, her tone gentle yet probing. "What illness? Did someone hurt you or put something on you?" "Tell me, so I can help you." In the end, Oliver, still a child, couldn't hold back. He burst into tears, his small hands pointing randomly at parts of his body. "Here, here... it's all dirty. It hurts so much." Dirty? Tina tried to discern something from Oliver's face, but the dim lighting made it impossible to see clearly. Before she could reach for the switch, the crying suddenly stopped.
The silence was unsettling. Tina turned to find Oliver had fainted, likely overwhelmed by his emotions.
She quickly pulled the curtains open and performed a brief check on him. Confirming that he was unconscious but stable, she immediately called Nathan.
Something was wrong with Oliver's body, but Tina couldn't determine what it was yet. Taking him to the hospital for a full examination was the safest option.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtNathan, who was just outside, answered Tina's call and didn't waste a second. He pushed the door open and hurried in.
In the living room, Hayden was lounging with his legs crossed, enjoying a snack. Nathan's abrupt entrance startled him.
Nathan paused for half a second, then quickly regained focus. "Where is Mrs. Farrell?" Hayden froze, the fruit in his mouth dropping to the floor with a thud. Though confused by Nathan's sudden appearance, he pointed toward the room.
Giving Hayden a look that practically screamed "good luck," Nathan strode toward the room.
He knocked once, then pushed the door open and stood outside. "Mrs. Farrell." Tina gestured for him to enter. "Nathan, take Oliver to the hospital." Nathan nodded and bent down to pick Oliver up, but Tina stopped him. "Wait. Wrap him in a piece of clothing first." Without hesitation, Nathan removed his jacket, wrapped it around Oliver, and carried him out.
As they approached the door, Nancy appeared. The moment she saw what was happening, her face twisted in panic. She spread her arms wide to block their path. "Where are you taking Oliver?" Tina glanced at her, calm but firm. "Oliver's condition is serious. We're taking him to the hospital." The word "hospital" made Nancy's expression tighten. Her voice rose in alarm. "No! You can't take him!" Tina's gaze turned cold. "And why not?" Any normal parent, upon hearing their child was unwell, would prioritize the child's health-not refuse medical treatment.
Nancy's eyes darted nervously. "You know Oliver doesn't like hospitals. Taking him to an unfamiliar place will only worsen his condition." "He'll be fine," Tina said resolutely, determined to take Oliver.
Nancy's eyes reddened with desperation. She pointed a trembling finger at Tina and demanded, "Who do you think you are to decide to take him without my consent? I said no, and that's final!" Tina's expression remained icy. "What if I insist on taking him?" Nancy hadn't expected Tina to speak to her in this way. She froze, her face paling with anger. "I'm only tolerating you because of my sister. Do you think you have any authority here?" "You keep claiming you can cure Oliver, and now you're rushing him to the hospital after something happened. How do I know you're not the one responsible for his condition? You owean explanation today!" Tina's eyes grew colder. "Do you want an explanation, or do you want Oliver's life?" Nancy choked, momentarily at a loss for words.
Tina stepped closer, her gaze sharp and unyielding. "You're his mother. Tell me-what's in his body that makes him hate himself so much he can't bear anyone touching him?" Nancy's brows furrowed, and she instinctively avoided Tina's piercing stare.
"I'm not a doctor. How would I know what's wrong with his body..." Tina ignored her and gave Nathan a pointed look.
Nathan understood immediately. He carried Oliver and headed for the door. Nancy, terrified, didn't dare physically confront Nathan but still blocked the way, shouting, "I'm warning you-put my child down, or I'll call the police!" Tina's gaze turned icy. A silver needle glinted between her fingers, ready to act, but a voice interrupted from outside.
"Nancy, what's going on here? What happened?" Jennie had arrived.
Seeing Jennie, Nancy pointed at Tina and cried, "Jennie, stop them! They're taking Oliver away! His condition can't handle this kind of upheaval. Taking him to the hospital will kill him!" Jennie glanced inside the room. She saw Tina preparing to leave with Oliver and hesitated. "Tina, what's going on?" Unlike others, Jennie trusted Tina deeply. Tina knew she needed to explain. "Jennie, Oliver's condition is critical. If we don't take him to the hospital, his life is at risk." Hearing this, Jennie was startled. Life-threatening? She immediately urged, "Then don't waste any time. Get him there quickly." Nancy, standing behind them, gritted her teeth in frustration. She turned to Jennie, tears streaming down her face. "Jennie, I'm your sister! How can you trust her over me?" Jennie frowned. While she could tolerate many things, on matters of life and death, she was clear-headed.
She looked back at Nancy, her tone low but firm. "Nancy, this is your child's life we're talking about. Tina is doing this for his sake. Oliver is unconscious-what are you waiting for if not the hospital?" Nancy glared at Tina with resentment. "But she claims she can..."
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmJennie cut her off with a sharp look. "What nonsense are you spouting? Tina is a doctor, not a magician. How can you expect her to handle this without a hospital?" "That's enough. Stop arguing. We're all going to the hospital together." At the hospital, the test results were finally in.
Tina received a call from Wraith. The jade pendant they had examined earlier contained no toxins, no radioactive substances-just an ordinary piece of jade.
This meant Nancy might not be the person she suspected.
Tina's eyes flicked toward the hospital room where Jennie stood by Oliver's bedside. She narrowed her eyes in thought. Had she been mistaken? The test results showed extensive damage to Oliver's internal organs. The cause of his coma was a buildup of toxins that had reached his nervous system.
However, no external signs of poisoning were found on his body.
The toxins in Oliver's system were the result of long-term accumulation and weren't contagious. Tina was certain of that.
But why had Oliver told her that touching him would make her sick? What did he mean by that? Tina couldn't figure it out just yet, but she knew one thing: all the answers were hidden within Oliver himself. Once he woke up, the truth would cto light.
Inside the hospital room, Nancy sat by Oliver's bed, crying as she held his small, unconscious hand. "Oh, Oliver, my poor child. Why is your life so full of suffering?" Jennie stood nearby, trying to comfort her, her own face ER heavy with concern. Just as Tina stepped into the room, Nancy's sharp gaze locked onto her. Her finger pointed directly at Tina as she yelled, her demeanor completely changed from earlier. "Who let you in here? Get out! We don't need you around Oliver anymore!" "You call yourself a doctor? My Oliver is like this because of you!" Tina stayed silent, but Jennie frowned and spoke up. "Nancy, Tina is my daughter. As a relative, you should show her basic respect. How can you say such things?"
A shadow of malice flickered in Nancy's eyes. Her tears fell harder as she turned to Jennie. "Jennie you heard the doctors yourself. They said Oliver won't survive the month. He was fine before! But today, the moment she stepped into the room, Oliver fainted!" "She's hiding something from us. How do we know she isn't the reason Oliver's condition has deteriorated so badly?"
