Chapter 851
Merritt could only dream of the privileges Dailey was born into-privileges he would never attain, no matter how
hard he tried.
This disparity, every tit was mentioned, felt like an invisible slap across his face. But even so, he was
determined to help Christine.
"You don't understand her at all," he said bitterly. "You can't comprehend why she'd choose to be with someone
like me-someone who's wronged her and has nothing to offer—over you, with all your wealth and power."
Dailey frowned at Merritt's words, clearly puzzled, yet unwilling to lose face in front of his rival.
"She will eventually be my lawful wife," Dailey stated confidently.
Merritt countered, "She won't be happy."
"You're not her. She will be happy," Dailey insisted.
Merritt pressed on, "And you're not her, so how can you be sure?"

Dailey had no interest in engaging in this childish argument. "Don't think that just because your grandmother is
nearing the end of her life, there's nothing left to threaten you with. If | were in your shoes, Merritt, I'd tread
carefully."
"Shut up!" Christine exclaimed, emerging from behind Dailey. "What nonsense are you speaking in front of God?"
She had ctoday primarily to pray for Helena, hoping the elderly woman would spend her remaining days in
peace. But words like "end of life" were not something to toss around lightly before the Almighty.
"Dailey, I'm here to pray today. Let's put everything else aside for now."
"Alright," Dailey agreed.
Relieved at his concession, Christine relaxed slightly. But before she could fully exhale, Dailey added, "Once
you've finished praying, we'll head to Vista Town to get our marriage license."
Annoyed, Christine, knowing they wouldn't succeed, decided to go along with it nonchalantly. "Fine."
"Sis..." Merritt began, but Christine silenced him with a reassuring glance.
Remembering what Jane had told him the night before, Merritt held his tongue. They all turned their attention to
their prayers, sincerely asking for peace. As they left, everyone wore a peace charm on their wrist. Christine had
two.
Dailey wasn't thrilled about the charm Merritt had given Christine hanging on her wrist. But since they were
about to head to get their marriage license, he chose not to comment, though his expression soured.
On the way down the mountain, Jane pulled Christine into the restroom for a private word.
"When | wanted to speak earlier, you signaledto stop. Are you worried your issues would complicate things
foragain?" Jane asked.
"I don't want you and Gregory caught in the middle of this," Christine replied, squeezing Jane's hand. "You've
already done so much for me, and I'm grateful."
"But | think it's best if Dailey and | resolve our issues ourselves."
Jane nodded understandingly. "I'll let you handle it, but remember, you don't have to go it alone. I'm here for
you."
"Thank you. | know," Christine said, comforted by her friend's support.
Outside, Gregory and Dailey shared a quiet conversation. "Are you sure we can get the license in Vista Town?"

"Not sure, but we'll find out when we get there," Dailey replied.
Gregory considered this and added, "Relying on force alone often leads to icy hearts."
Dailey dismissed the caution with a curt, "It won't."
Earlier, in the temple, Gregory had noticed Christine signaling Jane not to interfere. Since they didn't want their
involvement, he decided they should respect their wishes.
After descending the mountain,
Dailey took Christine straight to the airport. With Christine gone, Jane didn't see the point in visiting
Merritt's home. Instead, she dieted
Bella to take the kids to the car while she spoke privately with Merritt.
"Chris toldabout what happened in RiverCity believe you didn't mean any harm, Merritt, but love can't be
forced," Jane advised. "You agreed to let Chris use you, and you must understand that all arrangements have an
