"Shouldn't you be the one askingthat?"

Harper asked, "What did you do there?"
"| just spent stchatting with Grandma. Where did you and Annie go? Why didn't you answer my phone
call?"
"Did you call me?" Harper's phone was in her bag, and she hadn't looked at it since she spoke to Annie. "Sorry, |
didn't hear it. Are you upset?"
"No." He narrowed his eyes and continued to ask, "So where did you go? Can't you tell me?"
Harper bit her lip and asked, "Can't | just not tell you?"
"Is there something so important that you have to keep it a secret from me? Or should | ask Curtis to
investigate?"
"Benjamin!" She called his nwith a serious tone.
He shrugged with a careless smile and asked, "What's wrong? You don't wantto know?"
"It's just a girls’ thing. It will embarrass Annie if | tell you."
To prevent Benjamin from delving into this matter, Harper could only mislead him, making him believe that it had
something to do with Annie so he wouldn't ask anymore.

Benjamin didn't respond immediately but stared at her for a few seconds before speaking slowly. "I was just
saying that. Why are you so excited?"
His meaningful question seemed to imply something.
Harper looked at him in a daze, wanting to explain. However, before she could say anything, Benjamin's phone
rang.
He freed up one hand, picked up the phone next to him, and answered it in front of Harper. It was Curtis calling.
Curtis said, "Mr. Martin, Ms. Davis wants to see you, says she has something important to tell you. Do you want
to see her?"
He replied without expression, "Tell her to just say it. I'm not buying this and don't have the tto deal with
her."
His cold response surprised Harper, making her think," Isn't he very much in love with Lauren? Did they argue?"
Harper thought of Michelle's words.
Michelle said that Lauren had been seeing Frank. Judging from the conditions Michelle set, Frank and Lauren
must have been in contact quite often for Michelle to be so worried and afraid.
She thought, "So does Benjamin know? Would he care if he knew Lauren had another man?"
