Chapter 55

Nathan's handsface was as cold as an ice sculpture.

Humiliation.

Utter humiliation.

A penniless beggar dared to reject him, even at the cost of leaving with nothing.

Nathan felt a surge of heat rush to his head.

“Isabella, | won't agree to the divorce,” he said, slamming the phone in fury.

Isabella’s attempt to negotiate had failed, leaving her feeling utterly dejected. She curled up in the corner of the

sofa, pulled out her phone, and posted on various forums: “I want to divorce my cheating husband who has a

mistress, but he refuses. Any advice?“*

It didn’t take long for the thread to fill with replies.

While the responses varied, soffered sharp insights.

One comment stood out: *“If the cheater loves his mistress, then things are much easier. All you have to do is

stomach the disgust and pretend to be lovey-dovey with him. The mistress won't be able to handle it and will

definitely cause a scene. Let her help you convince the cheater to divorce you willingly- wouldn't that be more

satisfying?“*

*“Worst case scenario, if he still won't agree, then becSherlock Holmes. You'll need to get closer to him to

gather evidence of his infidelity. Once you have the proof, threaten him with it. Considering his family’s wealth

and reputation, there’s no way he wouldn't divorce. “*

Isabella felt as though a light bulb had gone off in her head.

That very night, she packed her bags and returned to the Hill family home.

When Nathan saw her, he was first stunned, then visibly furious.

“Isabella, what are you doing back here?”

Isabella replied calmly, “Since you won't agree to divorce, we're still legally married. Shouldn't a married couple

live together?”

Nathan was dumbfounded.

He studied Isabella for a long moment before sneering.

“Isabella, so now you're playing games? When you were

demanding a divorce, | admired your guts. But | see now that it’s all just a ploy.”

Isabella rolled her eyes. “The offer to divorce still stands.”

With that, she bypassed him and entered the house.

Her disdain for him ran deep, down to her very bones.

Unfortunately, Nathan's inflated ego made him believe her aloofness was simply part of her strategy to

manipulate him.

Dragging her suitcase, Isabella headed to a small room on the

third floor. The room was tiny, poorly lit, and had originally been intended for a housekeeper or as a guest room.

Most of the rooms on that floor were left empty, as Nathan preferred a quiet environment.

Nathan followed her upstairs and into the room.

“What's the meaning of this? Are you planning to live separately from me?” he asked, visibly taken aback.

Isabella casually unpacked her suitcase, placing her clothes into the wardrobe. Without looking at him, she

replied indifferently, “Do you really wantto share a room with you?”

Nathan's expression grew complicated, his emotions. inscrutable.

He couldn’t understand himself. When Isabella tried to get close to him, he was repulsed. Yet, when she

distanced herself from him, it left him feeling uneasy.

“You could stay in the room next to mine. It’s more spacious and bright,” he suggested.

Isabella paused momentarily, recalling the room she’d passed earlier. It was decorated like a pink fairytale

castle, with flowing curtains and a romantic atmosphere. It was clearly a room Nathan had meticulously prepared

for Victoria.

Curling her lips into a faint smile, Isabella replied, “The décor in that room is far too gaudy for my taste. | don’t

like it. Can | redecorate it?”

“Absolutely not,” Nathan replied firmly.

“Then I'll stay here,” Isabella said,

“Suit yourself,” Nathan muttered before turning and walking

away.
