Just as | was about to say something, Edward's voice cfrom behind me. “Are you heading back to
Hachester now?”
I nodded. “Yeah, I'm on my way to the airport.”
“Letgive you a ride,” Edward said.
| nodded again.
On the way to the airport, Edward tried to reassure me. “I'll talk to my parents. Don’t worry about it.”
“Edward, are you really sure about this?” | asked, still feeling doubtful. Honestly, | couldn't imagine Edward
actually wanting to spend his whole life with me.
Edward nodded. “I know marriage isn’t something to take lightly. It's about spending countless days together.
supporting each other through thick and thin. It’s not just about passion.”
“You've got sreal insight into marriage. No wonder-you’ve already been inside the fortress,” | joked,
grinning at him.
Edward sighed. “Yeah, it's because I've seen what it’s really like in there that | know exactly what kind of person |

“I'm not really that interesting, you know. I'm actually kind of dull,” | muttered.
Edward laughed. “Relax, I'll show you more of the world. With me, you'll never feel bored.”
“Alright then, guess I'll just tag along with you,” | said, leaning into his arm as the scenery outside the window
sped by.
My feelings for Edward weren't all that simple. With his top-notch connections and powerful family backing.
being with him meant my life would be a whole lot less uncertain.
Smart women don’t get blinded by love anymore.
If you're gonna fall for someone, you gotta use your head and weigh all the pros and cons before jumping in.
When we got to the airport, Edward got a call that sounded pretty important. After | went inside, he reminded me
to shoot him a text before boarding and let him know when I landed safely, then he drove off.
| walked into the airport traveling light, bought a ticket for the earliest flight available, but still had to wait an
hour before boarding.
| found a coffee shop, sat down, and scrolled through my work messages on my phone.
Someone must've sat down next to me, but | barely registered it.
Still glued to my phone, | absentmindedly grabbed the coffee I'd ordered and took a sip.

My gaze sharpened as | snapped my head up. He was wearing a baseball cap and a black mask, but there was
no mistaking that voice.
“Ryan...” | looked around, suddenly anxious. “What are you doing here?”
Ryan had ordered a coffee too. | couldn't shake the feeling he’d put his cup closer toon purpose, so | ended
up picking it up, thinking it was mine.
“Sorry, I'll get you another one,” | said, standing up.
Suddenly, he reached out and pressed his hand over mine.
His hand was scorching hot.
| jerked my hand back, startled, and glared at him. “You're out of line.”
“We used to be joined at the hip, and now just touching your hand is crossing the line?” Ryan scoffed softly.
“Turns out, when the love’s gone, even a simple touch feels uncomfortable.”
“You shouldn't have cto see me,” | reminded him coolly.
“It's not that | shouldn't be here. You just don’t want to see me,” Ryan said, his face full of hurt. “Vic, this really
isn’t fair.”
“Did you forget something? You're married,” | said, letting out a disbelieving laugh. “Being married means you
can’t just meet up with other women whenever you want. What you're doing is cheating on your wife, crossing
the line, and totally ignoring basic decency.”
“Don’t marry Uncle Ryan. Don’t becmy aunt. Otherwise, who knows what might happen,” Ryan suddenly
warned, his eyes burning with anger. “I'm going to get divorced sooner or later. When I'm single again, do you
really think I'll just play along and call you ‘aunt‘?”
“Ryan, are you crazy?” | shot to my feet. “When you decided to get married, did | say a single word? |
disappeared right away, deleted every way you could reach me. That wasrespecting your choice. So what
the hell are you doing now?”
“Calla jerk, calla devil-I never wanted to be the good guy anyway,” Ryan said, his eyes burning red as
he stared atlike sbeast from the abyss. “Take this as a warning. You are not allowed to marry Edward.”
He actually called Edward by his name.
My heart thudded. Was Ryan really going to go this far?
“You're a married man-what right do you have to butt in?” | snapped, my anger flaring. “Ryan, this isnt love, it's
just your twisted possessiveness. You treatlike stoy, and now that you're done, you can’t stand the
thought ofbeing with someone else.”
“Yeah, | don’t care. | just won't let it happen,” Ryan shot back, suddenly getting to his feet.
