| thought, ‘How could | ever get tired of him? He's sick right now, so I shouldn't expect too much from him."
There was a fire in Edward’s eyes-I could tell he was just as moved as | was.
| gently pushed him away and stood up. “You should get srest. You have to go to the church with your
mom tomorrow.”
For sreason, when | pushed him away, | caught a complicated look in his eyes, tinged with disappointment.
But | thought, ‘Let him be disappointed. I'm just looking out for his health.
“Alright, Ill go get srest,” Edward said, getting up and heading to the bathroom.
The shower was running, and | tried to calm myself down and get my emotions in check.
His teasing had left my body burning with heat.
“Victoria, | forgot to bring my pajamas,” Edward called out from the bathroom.

| froze for a second, then remembered the bag his bodyguard had dropped off earlier. | walked over and
rummaged through it, and sure enough, found a men’s pajama set.
| picked it up and walked over to the bathroom door. “Here, grab this.”
Edward cracked the door open just enough, a sly smile in his eyes as he took the pajamas from me.
And in that split second, | couldn’t help but catch a glimpse of something | definitely wasn’t supposed to see.
Honestly, this guy is always flirting with me-he’s got sserious game.
That night, Edward didn’t cover again. He just slept in the guest room.
| sat on the bed in the master bedroom, suddenly feeling a wave of gloom.
‘Why didn’t | just ask Edward to stay with me?‘ | wondered.
‘He’s got businesses all over the world- can’t believe he doesn’t own a place in Hachester. But now he’s using
my has his base!
‘Is this what trust between us looks like?
Lost in my thoughts, | eventually drifted off to sleep.
The next morning, my internal clock wokeup right on time. At 7:30, | left the master bedroom and saw
Edward still fast asleep in the guest room.
| walked over and gently touched his forehead.

Just as | was about to pull my hand away, he suddenly grabbed it. “Why are you up so early? Where are you
going?”
“I'm heading to work,” I replied. “You'll have to figure out breakfast on your own. If you want to grab lunch, just
givea call.”
Edward nodded, a little helpless. “Alright. Can’t you just take another day off?”
“No,” | said seriously.
He looked a bit disappointed again, but | knew-never giving in too easily is how you keep a man on his toes.
Start feeling sorry for a man, and you're just setting yourself up for disaster.
| went to work and didn’t bother checking on Edward. | stayed busy until noon, when he calledright on the
dot, just like clockwork.
| leaned back in my chair, staring out the window.
Outside, the steel jungle of the city glinted in the sunlight.
| don’t even know when | picked up Jared’s pen-twirling trick, but when | let my thoughts gather at my fingertips,
that little move helpedzone out for a moment and really zero in on what mattered.
Honestly, meeting Edward’s mom isn’t anything to get worked up about.
It's not like | ever really dreamed of marrying him, anyway.
To me, it’s just having a meal with an elder-no big deal.
| drove to the classic, elegant restaurant Edward had reserved, the scent of sandalwood lingering in the air.
Inside the quiet, minimalist private room with a distinct Zen-like atmosphere, | finally met Edward’s mother.
She was in her fifties, yet her long, jet-black hair was striking. She carried an unmistakable artistic aura, dressed
in a light, flowing silk dress. Honestly, if | saw her on the street, I'd definitely take a second look-she was
beautiful in that graceful, refined way that only comes with age and experience.
When | walked in, she was talking with Edward, who sat beside her looking completely at ease. As soon as he
saw me, he stood up. “Mom, this is Victoria, the one | told you about.”
Vivian smiled atand introduced herself. “Hello, I'm Edward’s mom. My nis Vivian Sterling.”
