“Yeah, but the Chamberlains aren't exactly pushovers. They'll definitely figure out where Ryan's been,” Edward
said, his deep eyes sweeping over my face. “That's why | had to get here early.”
| felt my breath catch as | looked up at him.
Edward's face radiated a calm strength that madefeel safe.
“You call this way in the middle of the night just to help me?” My heart lifted with a burst of happiness.
“Yeah,” Edward replied, but his eyes couldn’t help wandering from my face down to my nightgown.
The purple see-through nightgown suddenly felt way too extra, and | could hear Edward's breath growing
noticeably heavier.
Without thinking, | stepped back a couple of paces and blurted out, “Are you thirsty? Want stea?”
“Sure. Do you have any water?” Edward asked, his voice low and husky.
| turned to pour him swarm water. Edward wrapped his fingers around the glass and took a slow sip.
“Where are you staying tonight?” The words slipped out before | could stop them, and | inmediately regretted it.
Edward glanced toward my bedroom. “Do you have a guest room?”
“Yeah,” | nodded.

“Then I'll crash in your guest room,” Edward said with a low chuckle.
actually started getting the guest room ready. One was for my folks, and the other was basically untouched.
Edward followedin, and while | was fixing up the bed, he suddenly huggedfrom behind. “Can I sleep in
the master bedroom instead?”
| took a sharp breath, then said right away, “Nope. That room's reserved forand my little girl.”
Edward just shrugged, “Okay.”
| just blurted it out without thinking, and honestly, | was kinda shocked he didn’t get mad.
| had just finished straightening the sheets when, out of nowhere, Edward pulledinto his arms.
In a blink, | found myself sitting on his lap. “It’s getting late,” he murmured.
His deep voice rumbled in my ear, and a second later, he pressed a kiss to my earlobe.
In the chill of the night, his body burned hot against mine.

Morning came, and | was up before him. I had a ton of work waiting fortoday-no way | could sleep in.
| showered, did my makeup, and slipped into an elegant dress before heading into the guest room.
Edward was still asleep, sunlight filtering through the sheer curtains and softly lighting up his face.
His handsface looked unusually flushed in the morning sunlight streaming through the curtains.
Worried, | reached out to check his forehead, but pulled my hand back in surprise. “Edward, wake up. You're
running a fever.”
| hurried to grab a thermometer, and when | cback, Edward was already awake, pressing the back of his
hand to his forehead. “I know,” he muttered.
| handed him the thermometer. “So you avoided kissingall night because you knew you had a cold?”
Edward apologized, “Sorry, | just didn’t want you to catch it from me.”
| snorted. “Do you realize doing that with a cold could have even worse consequences?”
Edward sighed. “I know, but | just couldn't hold back. Besides... you looked like you wanted it too.”
| gave him a mock glare. “Did not!”
Edward checked his temp-100.4°F. Definitely a fever.
“I've got sfever meds. Want to take one, or should we just go to the hospital?” | asked, hesitating-he’s not
the type you just hand random meds to.
“Hand it over. I'll take it now, then hit the hospital for something stronger,” Edward replied.
| gave him the fever medicine and poured him a glass of water.
After he swallowed it, he lay back down to rest.
| walked out of the living room and called Jared, told him | needed to take another half-day off today, Jared didn’t
even blink-he toldto just take the whole day off and not worry about work, he'd make sure someone else
handled everything.
| thanked him and headed back to the guest room. “Anything you feel like eating? I'll cook for you.”
Edward gavea gentle smile. “It’s up to you. Whatever you make, I'll eat.”
“Alright, Ill go out and pick up sgroceries. Get smore sleep, okay?” | said softly.
Edward nodded obediently. “Okay.”
| got up, picked up my car keys, and decided to swing by the nearest supermarket.
