Chapter 907
"Aaron, listen to yourself!" Wayne's voice thundered with a mix of outrage and incredulity. "I'm your boss, for
heaven's sake, and tonight, my life was on the line! Those thugs were after me! And now... you want to haul me
back to the station? What in the world are you thinking? If word gets out, can you even handle the fallout?!"
Thaddeus watched Aaron with a worried gaze. Though not one to dabble in the murky waters of politics, he knew
all too well the weight of hierarchy.
"This block, I've got it completely locked down. Nothing about tonight will leak out. It's not just for your
reputation, but also to avoid public panic. | don't want folks around here to be scared to step out of their homes
cnightfall.”
Aaron's lips quirked up slightly, his handsface serene yet firm, his tone brooking no argument, "Plus, you
said it yourself, those thugs cfor you, making you the victim. So, by procedure, you should cwith us to
give your statement and let us ensure your safety. After all, you are my boss, a person of no small significance,
right?"
Wayne was rendered speechless.
Thaddeus's admiration for Aaron deepened, his eyes narrowing thoughtfully. Who said Aaron was just a brute?
Evadne must be eating her words right now.
The interrogation room was steeped in an air of tension as dawn approached. Wayne sat silently on the cold
chair, tight-lipped about anything beyond the night's events.
"There's no way around it, Captain Ashbourne," a colleague voiced their concern, "The Chief already knows. He's
insisting that as soon as the routine interrogation is over, we must release Director-General Wayne. Otherwise,

Aaron clenched his fists in frustration. "How much tdo we have?"
"Less than two hours. The Chief's been called back from Skyrim to Emsworth on an emergency basis."
A knot tightened in Aaron's stomach. He wasn't afraid of suspension; he was afraid that if they couldn't pin
anything on Wayne now, catching him in the future would be next to impossible.
He wanted to take down Avery, and he didn't want to let Evadne and Thaddeus down.
With a steely resolve, Aaron returned to the interrogation room.
He faced Wayne, who sat with his eyes closed, exuding an air of calm defiance. "You must be aware that the
Chief is on his way here. Perhaps | should remind Captain Ashbourne that if you don't releasesoon, you
might not have the chance to wear that uniform csunrise. And as I've said, | do not know those thugs. | have
no idea why they attacked me; | was merely defending myself. Beyond that, your questions will lead nowhere."
Aaron's tone was icy, threatening, "Director-General Wayne, the leader of those thugs has confessed. They
weren't after money; they wanted to silence someone."
Wayne remained expressionless.
"The leader mentioned their connection to the Chambers Group."
Aaron inched closer, his fingers tapping on the table, "So, is it reasonable to suspect that the person wanting you
silenced is Avery? After all, the Chambers family tree has been trimmed down to him being the lone survivor."
Wayne burst into laughter, "Prisoner's dilemma? You think that will work on me? Remember, I'm a cop too. Your
imagination is impressive. Ever considered a career in screenwriting? Being a cop is beneath your talents."
Aaron felt desperation creeping in as tticked away.
An hour later, the Chief arrived at ElImsworth precinct, demanding Aaron's immediate compliance to release
Wayne.
Meanwhile, at the hospital, Evadne was tending to Thaddeus's minor wounds, her heart aching at the sight. "You
said... you'd take care of yourself. What is this?"
"If this were five years ago, | wouldn't have a scratch on me."
Thaddeus's eyes softened as he pulled her closer, his injured hand holding hers, "Seems I've aged."
Feeling his grip tighten, Evadne murmured, "You're as strong as ever. You haven't aged a bit."
"Is that so."
His gaze darkened, his uninjured hand exploring gently, "Indeed. Who knows if I've aged better than anyone, my
Evadne."
"Can't you ever be serious!"
Despite their years together, Evadne still blushed at his flirtations, fumbling in his embrace, “Though Wayne was
saved, the crisis isn't over. And with no word from Aaron, it's clear the situation is at a standstill. We might have
to let the tiger back into the wild cdawn. And the real trouble might still be ahead."
Thaddeus held her close, his gaze deepening, "It's a tough nut to crack. Tonight, when we were surrounded, he
thought about taking out the leader right in front of me. It's clear he's all in, no turning back."
"He knows once he's boarded Avery's ship, there's no disembarking. He won't turn now."
Evadne frowned, shaking her head in frustration. "So, we only have one way out - we have to pin the cron
him."
But, easier said than done!
Just then, Evadne's phone rang, cutting through the tense silence.
"It's Elvis."
Surprised, Evadne exchanged a quick glance with Thaddeus before answering.
Before she could even speak, Elvis Waverley's voice cthrough, urgent and slightly hoarse with emotion:
"Evadne, I've sent you a video in your email. It's incredibly important, you need to see it now!"
Evadne was seldom used to seeing Elvis this emotionally charged. She didn't dare to delay, immediately opening
her email.
Thaddeus leaned in close, both of them peering intently at the screen.
The video was only a minute long.
But the impact it had on them was immense, sending their blood boiling with shock and adrenaline!
"Elvis, where did you get this?!" Evadne's voice trembled with excitement.
"It was Elsie Archer... Elsie!" Elvis's voice was heavy, choked with emotion.
