Chapter 1029
Thaddeus's steel-blue eyes widened. He froze, completely caught off guard by her sudden, passionate kiss. For a
second, his mind went blank.
He hadn't forgotten her. He remembered-they used to be lovers.
But those wild, heart-stopping memories? They barely registered now. He couldn't summon up that old love, no
matter how hard he tried.
Still... he couldn't deny it. He didn't hate this kiss.
Noticing his stillness, Evadne only pressed closer, cupping his chiseled face in her hands, kissing him like she
never wanted to stop.
Honestly, neither of them had much experience with this sort of thing. Especially Thaddeus-he was the type who
learned fast, but hadn't really had the chance to put it into practice.

Evadne was desperate to wake him up, to make him remember. She didn't care about pride or appearances
anymore. She was all in.
But Thaddeus didn't move an inch-solid as a mountain, eyes dark and distant, like a statue in an old cathedral.
Evadne's heart pounded with anxiety. She kissed the bridge of his nose, then, bold as ever, tried to kiss his
throat-when suddenly he pushed her away, firm but not rough.
"Evadne," he said quietly, her nhanging between them.
"I know we used to be together. After you left, Grandpa toldsthings about us."
He dropped his gaze, dodging the heartbreak in her eyes. "But... I'm sorry. Even if | once loved you, | just... | can't
feel it anymore."
Evadne nearly buckled with pain. She swayed, but somehow managed to stay on her feet.
Tears streamed down her cheeks, unstoppable, as if something inside had broken.
Those very words-she'd once said them to Thaddeus herself.
She had no idea how much they could hurt. It was even crueler than hearing, "I never loved you." Because
what's worse than never having something? Having it, and losing it.
"What | mean is... don't waste your tonanymore."
Thaddeus looked at her again—at her beautiful, heartbreakingly vulnerable face. For sreason, he couldn't
bear to really look at her. He spoke quickly, almost tripping over his words.
"I'm nothing special. You cfrom a great family, you've got talent, you're gorgeous-and let's be real, plenty of
guys would line up to take you out for burgers and milkshakes."
"You should be with someone who actually loves you. There's no point chasing what's already lost."
He stood, ready to leave.
Evadne's eyes were red-rimmed, but she grabbed his arm with fierce determination, her fingers digging into his
solid bicep.
"Then... let's start over."
Thaddeus turned, startled, meeting her eyes-fiery, shining with stubborn hope.
He'd always thought Evadne, with her privileged background and pride, would
never stand for a man treating her so coldly.
He'd forgotten-his Evadne never quit. Never gave up.
"Hi, Thaddeus. I'm Evadne."
Her hand slid down his arm until she was holding his hand tight, looking up into his face, blinking back tears. "It's
Okay if you don't love me. I'll just keep loving you. That's enough for me."
She let go, fast and firm, then swung her legs off the hospital bed, fighting through the pain as she walked out of
the room, head held high.
Thaddeus stood there, stunned. After a long moment, he looked down at his own hand, fingers curling slowly
inward, as if trying to hold on to something already gone.
