Chapter 734 Too Late Susan looked at Josiah with a warm smile.
Josiah originally intended to showcase his cooking skills, but Lysander had just learned and demanded strict nursing standards from him. Allowing him to make this dish in the kitchen was already a concession because he had been cooped up for too long.
To ensure the patient's mental well-being, appropriate activities were necessary.
But too much activity was certainly not advisable.
Lysander gazed at the lemon butter fish, not denying the fact that Susan had known all along. She simply abandoned her plan to cook the sdish. Her original intention was to play it safe by preparing this signature dish. Little did she expect to have a tacit understanding with Josiah.
At this point, she could only whip up a quick stir-fry with svegetables to make do.
As Lysander was rolling up her sleeves, a cheerful voice cfrom behind. Daphne had arrived with gifts.

"I really cat just the right time!" After her casual remark, she didn't forget to greet Susan and the others. She then pulled out two toys from her bag and handed them to Nilou and Rhizone. Even Aurora had a gift.
Josiah was the only one there who was overlooked, but he remained calm.
Lysander smiled. "I was just about to start cooking, and here you are. You're right on time." Daphne decisively stepped between Lysander and Josiah. "Of course, I'm practically living on your chimney. I smelled the delicious aromas and cright over." Laura and Susan saw this as a moment for the younger folks and excused themselves, telling them to keep an eye on the still-cooking food while they chatted and took Nilou and Rhizone to the living room to wait for others.
"Howard and Molly live next door, so they should be here the fastest, but they're still not here. I wonder what they're up to..." The elders' chatter gradually faded, leaving a quiet atmosphere.
The Guerra family's old house had been remodeled several times since it was built, making it a blend of antique charm and modern facilities.
The semi-open kitchen was spacious enough to accommodate everyone, let alone three people comfortably. Daphne leaned close to Lysander, focusing on the already prepared dishes. "Smells amazing. I can't even remember the last tI had your cooking. This tI'm going to indulge." Lysander hesitated. "I didn't make these." The apron Josiah had taken off earlier was now in her hands, ready to be tied around her waist, but Daphne's timely arrival caused a misunderstanding.
After a moment of silence, Daphne asked, "Then, is this Mdm. Laura cooking?" Josiah spoke softly. "I made it." The kitchen fell silent, save for the bubbling stew in the pot.
Lysander, unable to hold back her laughter, was about to comfort Daphne when she heard her comfort herself, "My skin hasn't been great lately, so I should eat light. No fish in heavy sauce for me." She would rather starve or leave the Guerra family's old house than eat food prepared by the sc*m who hurt her best friend! Lysander smiled quietly, looking at the ingredients on the counter. "Tonight is just a gathering for everyone to eat, drink, and chat. Those who want to cook can do so. If you want anything to eat, letknow, and I'll make it for you." This wasn't Daphne's first tvisiting the old house. As the daughter of the Everhart family and Lysander's best friend, she had visited a few times before Lysander and Josiah's divorce.
But back then, Lysander seemed more like a guest than the lady of the house.
Noticing the respectful distance between them, Daphne stopped coming around, and after their divorce, she avoided the place entirely.
Unexpectedly, during this visit, she found Lysander more integrated into the hthan ever before. Daphne thought about this, linking arms with Lysander. "I love everything you make. By the way..." The two of them hadn't seen each other in quite a while and quickly fell into a lively conversation. After a few initial exchanges about the dishes, the rest of their talk was filled with the usual chatter between girls.
Seeing how Daphne's arrival caused Lysander to overlook him, Josiah felt a twinge of jealousy and quietly left the kitchen.
After avoiding people for so long, Lysander was finally starting to recover from the grief of losing her father and reengage with her life, which included family and friends, and perhaps even him.
The kitchen beca cozy nook for whispered conversations.
Daphne glanced back to make sure Josiah was really gone before rolling her eyes. "He should have realized sooner. Now he's regretting his past behavior." It was too late.

Lysander smiled gently. "Madam Susan isn't the only one here for m dinner. Mr. Howard and his wife from next door will also be here. Josiah's injury was indirectly because of me. Please, givea break today?" Daphne wasn't one to hold a grudge when asked nicely.
"Fine, considering he did help you this time, I'll let it slide. But are you planning to leave again after this? | heard the conditions over there are awful. Can you really handle it with your weak health?" Daphne would have visited Lysander in the mountains if work hadn't held her back. Knowing Josiah had gone to endure hardships with her made her question his intentions.
"Ms. Lanister left her baby with me, so I can't leave now. I'll go back later when I get the chance." Lysander had to focus on Aurora for now as the latter was now her priority.
Daphne had heard about the Lionhart family's marital issues. Hearing Lysander mention Nieva, she couldn't help but curse Elio. She concluded, "Elio's actions are worse than Josiah's!" Having received significant help from Nieva, Daphne felt obliged to support her, even if only by vehemently denouncing their common enemy.
Lysander listened silently, her worry for Nieva deepening. She asked Daphne, "Weren't you supposed to receive several installments of the loan? Did you get them all?" "The first few went smoothly, helping Everhart Corporation catch a break, but we've hit ssnags recently," Daphne explained concisely.
"Ehas taken control of the Lionhart that family's financial business. He hates being reminded that he climbed up through marriage but can't shake it off. Lately, he's been contradicting previous decisions, causingquite a bit of trouble."
