It was Floretta.

Angeline’s expression gradually softened. She obediently sat back and listened to the conversation intently.

With his brows slightly furrowed, Evander comforted, “It’s my fault. Be good and finish your meal with Franny. I’ll be

home in fifteen minutes.”

Only after hearing that did Floretta stop crying.

After he hung up the phone, Angeline looked at his stern profile and suddenly became curious as it seemed that

Evander and Francesca had been the only ones accompanying the girl so far, and she had never seen Floretta’s

mother in that picture.

“Mr. Golding, I’m guessing that your wife is usually overseas? I’ve never seen her before,” Angeline asked

tentatively. If I can meet this mysterious woman, it may help me become the ambassador.

However, her words had evidently triggered something within Evander as his expression instantly darkened.

Sylas was about to say something, but he thought the better of it and could not help feeling nervous for her.

“Stop the car!” Evander instructed.

Sylas obediently pulled over by the road.

Angeline was stunned. Before she could process what was going on, the man said firmly, “Get out.”

“You mean now, Mr. Golding?”

Angeline thought she had heard him wrong and looked outside. Although the rain had stopped, there was not a

single person under the night sky, and fear gripped her heart.

Evander did not repeat himself but reached over and opened the car door on her side, his intimidating gaze looking

as though it could pierce through her, sending chills down her spine.

Angeline gulped in fear and fumbled to grip the car handle, using it as a support as she got out of the car.

No sooner had her feet touched the ground than Evander’s car sped away like the wind.

“Hey!”

The breeze at night was uncomfortably frigid, and apart from a few streetlights, there were hardly any cars.

A jarring sound from a sudden rustle in the bushes snapped Angeline back to her senses. She wrapped her arms

around herself and shuddered.

I used to think that he was a good man, but now it seems that I was such a fool! Would any normal human being

dump a weak lady like me in the wilderness? I just casually asked about her daughter’s mother. Must he react that

way? I think he’s most likely an unfaithful man. That’s why he dared not face it!

The MPV continued to move forward at a steady speed. Evander saw Angeline standing rooted to the spot through

the rear window mirror. She was wearing only a thin layer of clothes.

Sylas looked at Evander’s expression and could not help but comment, “She looks quite pitiful.”

Even after he chased Angeline out of the car, Evander’s mood still did not improve.

Alas, Angeline only has herself to blame for touching on a sensitive topic. For all these years, the subject of

Floretta’s birth mother has always been a taboo within the Golding family, and anyone who dares to mention her

will be driven out. Angeline should count herself lucky.

“Do you wish to get out and accompany her?” Evander withdrew his eyes and leaned back against the seat while

tugging at his tie with his slender fingers. Exhaustion and irritation were evident on his face.

“No. I’m sorry for saying that.” Sylas shuddered, not daring to speak anymore.

After walking for more than an hour in the darkness of the chilly night, Angeline finally arrived home.

She was exhausted, and her legs felt as though they were about to give out. She took off her slippers and noticed

that there were blisters on the soles of her feet.

Her phone was already out of battery, so she went to charge it first before heading to the bathroom to take a hot

bath. Only after soaking in the warm bathtub did warmth return to her body.

Since graduating from university, Angeline had never walked for such a long distance. Had she not been familiar

with the route, she would have died on the spot.

After the bath, she took out a medical kit and applied medicine to the soles of her feet.

The silence in the room caused her to start spacing out.

So much had happened that night. The memory of Hanson misunderstanding her and forcing her to apologize in

public, in particular, filled her with disappointment.

It had completely extinguished the last spark of hope she had for him in her heart.

Joseline, Hanson, someday, you’ll regret what you’ve done.

Raising her head, Angeline saw that the few bottles of beer left over from the last time Nancy had come over were

still on the dining table. Upon deliberation, she walked over and unscrewed the cap.

She felt horrible as though a large stone was pressing on her chest, and at that moment, she desperately needed

an outlet.

Because of her low alcohol tolerance, she was so drunk that she lost consciousness after drinking two bottles of

beer.

Ding!

An incoming phone call rang out in the silent room.

“Who is it? Ugh, so annoying,” Angeline mumbled after waking up with a start. She got up, walked over to the

couch, and groped for her phone.

Upon unlocking it, she discovered that someone was giving her a video call.

Seeing the unfamiliar phone number, she instinctively pressed the hang-up button.

Soon, her phone rang again. The noise gave her a headache, so she answered in an unpleasant tone, “Who are

you? Is there something you need?”

“Are you sleeping, Angel? Am I disturbing your rest?” An adorable little girl’s voice came from the other end of the

line.

Hearing that, Angeline immediately sobered up.

There was only one person who would address her that way.

Looking at her phone screen, she spotted the little girl in the video. “Floretta, is it really you?”

“Angel, I miss you so much,” Floretta shouted excitedly. “You ignored me for a week.”

Her face gradually enlarged on the screen, and she kissed the camera a few times.

Angeline looked at the bubbly little girl on the video call, and her gaze gradually softened. “Why are you calling me

at this hour?”

Floretta pouted and whined, “Daddy went out to the party and hasn’t come back.”

Angeline was at a loss for words.

“Angel, I saw on Twitter that you fell just now. Are you all right?” Floretta stared at her with wide eyes. “Your face is

so red. Are you in pain?”

Angeline’s heart warmed when she heard those words. “No. I just drank a little alcohol,” she replied with a smile.

“What is alcohol?” Floretta asked curiously.

Angeline walked to the dining table, picked up a beer bottle, and introduced to her, “It’s this right here. It’s

something like a drink.”

“I get it now!”

Floretta nodded with new understanding. She then lowered her head and took out a small pink carton from her

drawer before pointing at the picture on it and saying with a smile, “Just like my favorite strawberry yogurt. I feel

happy every time I drink it. Do you feel the same, Angel?”

Happy?

Angeline was stumped by her question, and there was a hint of bitterness in her eyes.

“Perhaps,” she replied in a low voice, clenching the beer bottle so hard that it made a cracking sound.

All she knew was that beer was bitter, and although being drunk was not a pleasant feeling, it would help her forget

many troubling matters.

Maybe it’s a form of happiness for adults.

Floretta could tell that the other woman was feeling troubled and not in a good mood, so she bit her finger and

pretended to be deep in thought.

Oh no! My goddess is unhappy. How should I comfort her? I got it!

The little girl suddenly burst out laughing, her eyebrows curving like a crescent moon. “Angel, would you like to

know some juicy gossip about my daddy?”

Angeline was intrigued by those words, and she widened her beautiful eyes. “Is that okay?”
