Chapter 282 The man greeted her with an easygoing nod.
At first, Allison thought he was just another acquaintance of a friend, so she brushed it off, never imagining he'd turn up here. Her eyes darted around the room quickly. The two guys who had snatched her the previous night were now standing before this stranger, heads lowered in what looked like respect.
A crew of henchmen flanked him, clearly marking him as the boss. Someone had mentioned a "Chris" earlier-was it him? Yep, he was Chris.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtFear kicked in, and Allison instinctively took a couple of steps back, her complexion turning a shade paler. This was the guy who'd repeatedly tried to take her out-the very one who almost killed her dad! Staying composed in front of such a danger felt impossible.
"Scared of me?" Chris asked, his charming eyes twinkling with amusement.
Chris's mom, Helen, had been a famous beauty in the entertainment scene back in the day, while his dad, Ben, was a well-known elite in Oak Lake. Chris had inherited their stunning looks, taking after his mom with his finely chiseled features, almost otherworldly in their allure.
Before actually meeting him, Allison had pictured Chris as a rough, intimidating brute. She hadn't expected him to look so... harmless when he smiled.
Allison swallowed hard. "Grabbingis pointless. Joshua and I hardly know each other now. You can't useto get to him." Chris chuckled and stepped closer, locking eyes with her. "You'll see soon enough." A subtle, mysterious smile played on Chris's lips. "Ms. Allison, you're quite the beauty. No wonder Joshua and Zach can't seem to let you go." Allison edged back further, suspicion flashing in her eyes. "You know Zach too?" Chris shrugged casually, a mocking tone in his voice. "Just a plaything I keep around for kicks. It's fun to take him out for a spin when I'm bored." Allison knitted her brows. From his words, it sounded like Zach was under his control.
No wonder the Reynolds Group had pulled off a miraculous comeback from the brink of bankruptcy-Chris had been orchestrating things behind the scenes.
How did they even know each other? Wasn't Chris supposed to be overseas all this time? Lost in thought about Chris's link with Zach, Allison missed what the man was saying.
Seeing Allison's mind elsewhere, a flicker of annoyance crossed Chris's face, his tone turning cold. "I'm talking to you." Jolted back to the present, Allison remembered Chris's earlier comment about finding out soon.

"Didn't you say you two are practically strangers now? Why the concern?" Chris slipped his hands into his pockets, grinning as he asked, "Afraid he'll walk into his doom?"
Allison tried to appear calm. "I just don't want anyone's death on my Odoesn't matter who it is Wouldn't want anyone taking that risk."
"You think I'd buy that?" Chris chuckled, eyeing Allison. "You two sure love to act. If you're so into m , Why not perform a heartfelt scene in front of me? If I enjoy it, I might think about letting Joshua off easy." Allison couldn't stand hearing such cruel words; a chill crept over her as fear took a firmer hold.
Although Joshua had hurt her and she was determined to step out of his world for good, she couldn't bear the thought of him dying because of her. She just wanted Joshua to be safe, even if it meant cutting all ties for good.
But if he really lost his life trying to save her, she'd be haunted by that shadow forever.
