Chapter 1098 Knocking on Her Door in the Middle of the Night
Alivia took several steps back, evading him until she was pressed against the railing, unable to retreat any further.
Bert grew impatient with her evasive movements and simply reached out to hold her slender wrists, slipping his
large hand into her pocket to retrieve the phone. Just as he was about to take it out, a tender and childish voice
sounded from beside them:
"Mr. Harper, Ms. Graves, what are you doing?"
Bert's movements froze, and Alivia wasn't in a much better state. She took advantage of his distraction and quickly
broke free from his grasp, stuffing the phone back into her pocket, then turned to walk towards Lucas, saying, "We
were just playing around. Have you finished looking at the sea?"
"Yeah, I'm done. I'm feeling a little cold, so I want to go back to the hotel," Lucas said, his nose slightly red, possibly
from the chilly wind.

Bert watched as she successfully slipped away right in front of him. As she passed by him with Lucas, he caught the
flash of triumphant cunning in her eyes. He didn't miss it.
Feeling smug?
He'd make sure that photo would be deleted once Lucas wasn't around.
The three figures cast long shadows on the seaside road under the overhead lights. Bert followed behind, his face
indifferent, but his steps subtly adjusted to match theirs.
After a fifteen-minute walk back to the hotel, they took the elevator to the room floor. Alivia deliberately held Bert
back for a moment to instruct him, "Lucas was out in the sea breeze tonight, so let him take a hot bath later. Don't
let him catch a cold."
"Okay," replied Bert. He took Lucas by the hand and turned to enter the house.
Once back in her room, which was located on a higher floor, Alivia could see the wide sea from the window, the
same ocean they had passed by just now. She changed her clothes and was about to put her phone back into her
pocket when she hesitated.
She unlocked her phone and found that the screen was still displaying the photo she had just taken. No matter how
many times she looked at it, regardless of whether she saw it in person or through the screen, she couldn't deny
the allure in that face.
She gazed at the photo for a while before putting her phone back, then lay on the sofa at the foot of the bed, lost in
thought.
This trip to Quartz City came unexpectedly, and it was an opportunity for them to spend time together after parting
ways since the last time she returned to the country. Before, she had never thought much about Bert. She simply
saw him as a mysterious and powerful man who belonged to a completely different social class, someone she
wouldn't have much interaction with.
The only connection between them was those eighty thousand dollars. If she repaid, their business would be

But after they separated, she had an inexplicable feeling. Until now, she still didn't know how to define it. It was only
during this trip that, upon seeing his face again, walking by his side, everything seemed the same yet somehow
different.
Inexplicably, something seemed to have changed.
She found herself staring at him closely, naturally doing little things for him, pondering over a phrase he said, and
flipping her thoughts back and forth.
All of this, it's never happened before.
Just when Alivia's mind was swirling with countless thoughts, the doorbell of her guest room suddenly rang. She got
up and walked to the door, cautiously asking, "Who is it?"
"It's me," a familiar voice came through.
She relaxed and opened the door, only to be surprised by Bert standing outside wearing a white bathrobe with a
grim expression on his face.
