“Mrs. Winters, here are the results. Are you really a friend of the person who took the test?” the man asked. “I'm taking a huge risk
and responsibility by giving this to you like this!”
“Yes, she askedtoe pick them up. Don’t worry, there won't be any trouble!”
Mrs. Winters laughed, took the results, and told the man to go back inside. She sat down on a chair to look at the report.
She skipped the preamble and went straight to the conclusion.
But just as she glanced at it, the report was suddenly snatched from her hands. She looked up in shock at the tall, stern man
before her and froze.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtGabriel glanced at the report and said coldly, “You're Mrs. Winters? Does this report have anything to do with you? Bribing lab staff
to privately obtain someone else’s results—do you not know that’s illegal?”
Mrs. Winters recognized Gabriel and quickly stood up to explain. “Mr. Carnes, it's a misunderstanding, a misunderstanding! I'm
here to pick up the results for Evelyn.”
Gabriel's expression was icy. “So Evelyn sent you?”
Mrs. Winters suddenly remembered the call from Evelyn that morning, specifically warning her not to mention her nif she was
caught.
She immediately changed her story with a smile. “Not Evelyn. | knew Evelyn was getting a test done here, and | happen to know
someone who works here, so | thought I'de by and get an early look at the results for her.”
Gabriel's eyes were sharp, his tone low and chilling. “I don’t have tto deal with you today. Tell Evelyn to stop causing trouble!”
A chill ran down Mrs. Winters's spine as she watched the man turn and walk away, confused by his words.
Wasn't it Evelyn who got the test?
Why did he say she was causing trouble?
Before she could figure it out, the person who had given her the report rushed over. “Mrs. Winters, good, you haven't left. Are you
really a friend of the person who took the test? My boss wants to question me. You need toe explain this.”
“Me? How am | supposed to explain?” Mrs. Winters sensed something was wrong and quickly made an excuse. “| have somewhere
to be, | have to go!”
“Mrs. Winters, you can’t leave! You can’t throwunder the bus like this!” the man said angrily.
But Mrs. Winters scurried away.
