Gabriel thought for a moment. “I believe their own child was sick and they urgently needed money.”
Gia's heart ached. Adoptive parents who would sell her must have treated her horribly.
“Where are her adoptive parents? When did they adopt her?” Old Mr. Quintin continued to ask.
Gabriel replied, “Her adoptive parents claimed they found her by a river, but that may not be true.”
“Is their last nJarvis too?”
“No,” Gabriel paused. “She took my family's name, Jarvis.”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtThere was a moment of silence as everyone processed this, their thoughts varied.
Old Mr. Quintin was about to ask more when Estelle cut in, “Sylvia and Gia are doing the test tomorrow. There's no need to
rush to understand Sylvia's past or look for clues right now, Mr. Quintin. Once the results are out tomorrow, you can ask all the
questions you want.”
Whether Sylvia was Gia's daughter was still uncertain, and Estelle didn't want people prying into Sylvia's past and making
baseless assumptions about her.
Gabriel added, “Estelle is right. Her past doesn't prove anything. We'll just wait for the results tomorrow.”
Old Mr. Quintin nodded. “You're right, I'm getting ahead of myself.”
They all had dinner together. Don was the most talkative, animatedly describing the cuisine in C Country. Old Mr. Quintin chimed in
a few times, and with Sophia cracking jokes, the atmosphere was relatively light and pleasant.
After dinner, it was getting late, so Estelle and Jonathan decided to head home.
Old Mr. Jarvis was staying the night, and Gabriel was heading to his own house. As he was leaving, he said to Gia, “I'll pick up
Sylvia first tomorrow, thene get you.”
Gia replied, “You don't have to. I'll drive myself. | know the way now.”
Gabriel nodded. “Alright. Try not to overthink things.”
Gia, now much calmer, smiled. “I understand. Thank you for everything.”
