Sylvia nodded, said goodbye to Evelyn, and turned to leave.
Mrs. Winters let out a sigh of relief and quickly said to Eugene, “Why don’t you two chat? You young people have more to talk
about.”
Eugene politely declined. “I don’t know Ms. Quintin well, so we don’t have much to discuss. Since she’s your friend, Mom, you
should be the one to entertain her.”
With that, Eugene gave Evelyn a slight nod and walked away.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtEvelyn subtly clenched her fists. It was one thing for her to look down on Eugene, but for him to look down on her was another
matter entirely.
Mrs. Winters was fuming, silently cursing Eugene for being so clueless. If Aries Winters were old enough for marriage, did he think
she would have introduced Evelyn to him?
For now, she could only try to smooth things over. “Our Eugene is just a bit shy. He gets flustered around girls and doesn’t know
what to say. He's usually so busy with work that he hardly has tto socialize.”
Evelyn feigned a nonchalant smile. “He seemed to be chatting just fine with Sylvia.”
Mrs. Winters’s tone becfawning. “Ms. Jarvis works in public relations; she’s a social butterfly who gets along with everyone.
She can’tpare to you. You're a true lady, poised and elegant.”
Flattered by Mrs. Winters’s words, a slight smile appeared on Evelyn's face. “But it seems everyone prefers Sylvia's type.”
Mrs. Winters, ever the worldly-wise socialite, saw right through Evelyn'sparison and immediately said, “They're just playing
with her. How many men who get close to her are actually sincere?”
Evelyn smiled and changed the subject. “Is Gladys not here?”
“She's here,” Mrs. Winters replied quickly. “She’s probably off with her friends. I'll call her over in a bit.”
