Chapter 1746

Gina stood there, her face filled with disbelief and fear. She quickly turned to Bard, “Is this true?”

Bard spoke in a deep voice, “Shawn is receiving treatment. We were thinking to discuss this after Shawn comes out

from the operating room. The specifics of the compensation will have to wait until a legal assessment of our

company’s losses is made.”

Gina had completely lost her earlier bravado, only panic remained. She stammered, “H-how much could it be?”

One of the other leaders said, “Ms. Sullivan is correct. Preliminary estimates suggest it indeed exceeds a million

dollars.”

Gina’s vision went black, and she fainted.

Bonnie caught her, “Mom, Mom!”

Magdalen sneered, “Playing dead now that you know you have to pay, huh?”

Gina slowly opened her eyes, bursting into a rage of tears, “That damn Shawn, he has ruined my life and now he’s

going to ruin my grandkids’ lives too. Let him die. Don’t save him!”

A leader from OrbitaTech Ventures frowned, “This is a hospital. Please stop crying. Let’s wait until he wakes up.”

“Mom!” Bonnie panicked, ‘Do we really have to sell the house? Where will we live if we sell it?”

She then turned to Emily, “You found this job for Dad, didn’t you? You should take responsibility!”

Gina, slightly more coherent, knew they couldn’t sell the house. If they sold it, Bonnie would definitely divorce her

son and their family would collapse.

She also looked towards Emily, “Emily, Bonnie is right. You need to fix this.”

Emily’s throat tightened, tears streaming down her face. Her heart felt like it was being crushed, her voice choked

and icy, “What do you want me to do, Mom?”

“You have to pay for the compensation. I have some savings I can give you, but we can’t sell your brother’s house!”

Gina croaked.

Magdalen felt like swearing. If this weren’t Emily’s mother, she would’ve slapped her by now. She hadn’t been in

such rage in her life.

“Previously I’ve told Ella we’d help Emily pay, no matter the cost. But now, we won’t meddle anymore, and you

need to sell that damn house! Shawn isn’t just Emily’s father. Emily has a claim on that house too. You all have to

share in this!”

Bonnie widened her eyes, “That’s my marital home. Why does Emily have a claim?”

“Why wouldn’t she?” Magdalen fumed, “It was bought with the proceeds from the old house, which was partly

Emily’s. So, the new house is partly hers too!”

Gina quickly retorted, “When we sold the old house, I gave Emily her share!”

Magdalen asked, “How much?”

Gina said, “10 grand!”

Magdalen almost laughed out of frustration, “Your house sold for at least 300 grand, and you gave Emily 10 grand?

How could you even bear to do that? And how can you even say it out loud now?”

Gina was embarrassed and exasperated simultaneously, still arguing, “Emily agreed to it at the time!”

Magdalen was about to kick her when Emily stopped her.

Emily looked at Gina, her eyes no longer filled with tears, but with disappointment and sorrow, “From the moment

we sold the old house, you started showing your favoritism. You took the money for my brother’s new house. The

new house was for my brother’s marriage. It had a bedroom for my brother and one for you, but not for me. You

never thought about where I would live!”

“Then when it came to renovating the house, you used me to scam Noreen out of 50 grand. To this day, I’m still

repaying that money!”
