"Mom?"
Naomi showed up today looking a bit over the top-like she was dressed for a wedding, not a family dinner.
She glanced around the room, a little lost, and blurted out, "Sylvia, they wouldn't letin."
Sylvia hurried over, pulling her aside to speak quietly. "Mom, what are you doing here?"
Ever since Naomi and Edwin moved out of the Garcia house, they'd been pretty much pushed out of family
gatherings. No one really bothered to invite them anymore, which honestly suited both of them just fine.
So Sylvia was baffled as to why Naomi would crash this particular event.
Naomi looked confused. "Didn't you and Mr. Sanford call me? Said the Sanford family wanted to have dinner with
me? They called in such a rush, | barely had tto get someone to do my hair. Then at the door, the host just
refused to letin. No matter how | tried to explain, he ignored me. Can you blme for being upset?"
"You could have called me," Sylvia replied.
"1 did! You didn't answer."
Naomi pulled out her phone, showing Sylvia her call history.
It finally hit Sylvia-she'd set her phone to silent before coming into the room.
She shot a look at the host by the door. He definitely could've handled the situation better, but it seemed like
he'd let Naomi make a scene on purpose.
Before Sylvia could say anything, Kay stood up.
"Mrs. Naomi, csit by me," Kay offered politely, then looked at Sylvia. "Ms. Lloyd, aren't you going to invite
your mother to sit down?"
Scott looked genuinely surprised. "Mrs. Naomi? She's Sylvia's mother? So then, Sylvia..."
Kay seemed even more surprised than Scott, glancing at Lester before saying with a little hesitation, "Didn't
Lester tell you? Ms. Lloyd is technically Mr. Edwin's stepdaughter. Actually, she should be calling Mr. Rupert
‘Uncle Rupert.’ But don't overthink it—she doesn't even know who her real father is."
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtScott and a few of the other Sanford family elders frowned.
They didn't really care that Sylvia cfrom a modest background, but this
tangled family situation was... complicated, to say the least.
Sylvia quickly tried to explain, "I've already cut ties with the Garcias-"
But Kay, ever so innocent, interrupted, "Ms. Lloyd, aren't you getting ahead of yourself? You and Lester just got
together, and you're already bringing your mom to meet forget tonight's
a family? Did you
about Reese and Mr. Rupert? You're kind of putting everyone in an
awkward spot." s
Like Sylvia was pushing Lester to marry her or something.
"Sylvia, you can't keep using the stricks..." Fay piped up with a fake apology,
covering her mouth as if she hadn't meant to say it.
But the damage was done.
Scott frowned, "Fay, what are you talking about?"

"What rumors?" Scott pressed her.
"There's talk that Mrs. Naomi was the 'other woman' before she married into the Garcia family.

Lester's face darkened.
It was complicated. Sylvia's car accident and memory loss weren't things you could explain in a couple of
sentences.
"Dad, let's talk about it later, just the two of us."
Tristan finally stood up, sighing. “I'm sorry, everyone. You didn't chere for all this ."
