Chapter 475
"She wants a woman from a wealthy family as her daughter-in-law, doesn't she?" Wanda asked.
"Probably," replied Vespera, her voice tightening.
Vespera had never planned on marrying into the Reid family. From the beginning, she had known exactly what
kind of daughter-in-law Fawn wanted. Fawn wanted someone from a family like the Reid family. Until now, that
knowledge had only left her feeling a bit disheartened.
However, now that Wanda had heard it firsthand, and Wanda knew full well the nature of Vespera's current
relationship with Dominic, what Vespera felt was no longer just disappointment. Vespera felt ashamed.
"You're still not willing to let go of him, are you?" Wanda asked, her voice abnormally calm.
Vespera replied, "No, we've already talked about it. He agreed."
"He agreed to break up?" Wanda asked.
"Yeah," answered Vespera.
Wanda questioned, "What about your job?"

"Work is work. We're professionals. So, | plan to stay and continue working," responded Vespera, trying to sound
steady like she had it all under control.
Wanda was silent for a few seconds. Then, she said, "Alright. | understand. I'll end the call now."
Vespera wasn't sure if Wanda believed her. Nevertheless, she said, "I'll visit you and Dad soon once things settle
down."
Without saying another word, Wanda ended the call just as Vespera expected. Sitting on the couch, Wanda
replayed everything she had just heard, and her chest tightened.
If Vespera truly wanted to hold onto this relationship, no matter what it cost, Wanda would do it. Wanda searched
for a phone number and dialed it.
Back at the restaurant, Vespera felt drained. Wanda clearly didn't believe a word of what she said.
When Vespera returned to her seat, everyone at the table avoided meeting her eyes. After all, they had just been
gossiping about how Fawn wanted a woman from a wealthy family as her daughter-in-law.
"Why is everyone so quiet?" Vespera asked with a smile, picking up her cutlery. "Ms. Gildon, we didn't mean
anything by it. Please don't take it to heart."
"Mrs. Reid is one thing, and Mr. Reid is another."
"Exactly! Ms. Gildon, we believe in you. You beat Ms. Moreno and Ms. Acosta, so you'll definitely outshine the
woman from a wealthy family, too!"
Everyone fell silent and turned to glare at the last speaker.
Still smiling, Vespera said calmly, "It's alright. It's not like you made it up. Even if you didn't say it, someone else
would have. There's no need to feel guilty."
The employees from the secretarial department collectively let out a sigh of relief. They all praised Vespera for
being cool-headed.
Meanwhile, Vespera was deep in thought. Which one at the banquet was Fawn? if Fawn really had been rescued
by a woman from a wealthy family that night, how could Fawn know the woman was wealthy but not know the
latter's identity? The logic didn't add up. s
Unless there was no such woman. Maybe the entire search was just a setup. It was a pretext to introduce a
carefully chosen match into Dominic's life. Wrapped in a tic story about a debt of gratitude, it would make
the blind
date harder to refuse.

Dominic would refuse to go on a blind date, but if it were a woman who had saved
his mother, he might agree to meet the woman out of obligation.
Vespera couldn't pretend she wasn't bothered. That night, when Dominic chose to stay behind with Fawn,
Vespera could understand that But now, they were creating a heroine just to push someone else into his life.
That was pushing it. s
Vespera returned to the office. Not long after, Dominic and Gerard returned as well. The business lunch hadn't
even lasted an hour. Clearly, Dominic had left early and had Samuel handle the rest.
There was still half an hour left in the lunch break. Dominic knocked on the door before entering Vespera's office.
She was curled up on the couch, catching up on sleep. The curtains were still open and the lights were on.
When Vespera heard the door, she cracked one eye open. Seeing it was Dominic, she turned over and closed her
eyes again. She asked, "Why are you back so soon?"
Dominic glanced around, taking in Vespera's nap environment. She really must have been shaken last night.
He walked over and sat down on the edge of the couch. Then, he rubbed her calf as he said, "Move to the
penthouse. It's safer."
Vespera replied, "Forget it. You're about to meet your mom's savior. Don't anger your mom at this time. Be
good."
