Chapter 417
Calvert got up to answer the door, while Vespera remained at the dining table, finishing her meal. She was
convinced it had to be Nancy at the door. As footsteps approached, she continued eating at an unhurried pace,
mentally preparing a lashing for Nancy.
The mere memory of falling for Nancy's manipulative stunt made her stomach churn. All the pent-up frustration
felt like the aftermath of a drunken night. It was nothing but a foggy mess of regret and embarrassment.
The footsteps drew closer, but the people who entered were a couple. The man had blond hair and ice-blue eyes
with exquisite features and pale skin that made him look sick. He radiated a moody demeanor.
Meanwhile, the woman beside him had long chestnut hair and prominent features. She stood nearly six feet tall.
She had the presence of a runway model. Their outfits were fashionable as well.
The couple was looking at Vespera, studying her with an intense gaze. It was as if she were a sculpture on
display, being silently appraised from every angle.
Vespera slowly set down her knife and fork. Standing up, she looked over at Calvert, who had returned to the

"They're Mr. Reid's friends," answered Calvert.
Vespera replied, "I see..."
That said it all. Since Dominic wasn't home, and Calvert only wanted to eat, Vespera had no choice but to serve
the guests.
Vespera stepped forward with a polite smile and greeted, "Hello."
The woman lit up with a smile and stepped closer. She said, "Hi, I'm Evelyn. My nicknis Lynn."
Vespera was surprised that Evelyn sounded fluent in Hanic. The latter's pronunciation was surprisingly accurate."
Vespera shook her hand and said, "Nice to meet you. I'm Vespera."
Evelyn must be Dominic's first love, whom Nancy had once mentioned. If Evelyn was truly Dominic's first love,
Vespera had to admit that he had excellent taste.
"Vera," repeated Evelyn. Then, she reached out without warning and pinched Vespera's cheek. She added, "What
a lovely name. I like it."
Vespera was caught off guard. She wasn't used to getting her cheek pinched by someone she had just met. It
was too much.
Vespera leaned back a little and shifted her attention to the man. Compared to Evelyn's friendliness, the man
was aloof. The look he gave Vespera had a hint of judgment and contempt.
Evelyn introduced, "He's my fiancé, Vance."
Vespera offered Vance a courteous nod and said, "Nice to meet you."
Vance returned a nod but said nothing. And then, without a word, he turned and walked out.
Vespera was confused. Did she somehow offend him?
Evelyn looped an arm around her shoulders and leaned in. She said gently, "Don't mind him. He's always like
that. Also, | gave him a nickname, Gale."
Vespera didn't hear clearly and asked, "Gayle?"
In response, Evelyn repeated, emphasizing the name, "No, it's Gale."
Vespera nodded slowly, then it hit her. Didn't the nGale mean another thing
in her country? How could Evelyn give her fiancé such a nickname? It wasn't appropriate!
Vespera wondered if she should tell Evelyn, but decided not to in the end. Although she couldn't understand it,
she respected it.
"Mr. Reid isn't hat the moment. Have you contacted him before?" Vespera asked politely.
She knew that Evelyn and Vance hadn't contacted Dominic. If they had, he would have called her or Calvert.
As expected, Evelyn answered, "We were having dinner nearby and decided to swing by. We haven't told him
yet.”
Vespera nodded and replied with a smile, "I see."
Vespera led Evelyn into the living hall. Vance was already seated on the couch with his back straight and posture
perfect, exuding a cold demeanor. In contrast, Evelyn radiated warmth with her bright smile.
Together, they looked like the embodiment of opposites attract.
