She quickly pleaded on Athena's behalf.
"Boss, Athena didn't mean it. Give her another chance, please. This script is fantastic, and she has a real shot at becoming a hit, like Anna did. She'll make money for the company." Upon hearing this, Anna didn't hesitate. She stood up and slapped Doris.
"Who does she think she is, comparing herself to me?! Doris, you must be out of your mind. You should switch to another artist before it's too late. Sticking with someone like Athena will only drag you down. The deeper you get, the harder it'll be for anyone to want to work with you." Agents live off their artists' success-the more popular the artist, the more they earn.
But Doris's artist, Athena, had never really taken off. Doris was capable, but Athena was holding her back.
Despite the slap, Doris didn't dare say anything and only looked towards Jacob.
However, Jacob was always partial to Anna and now found Doris annoying.
"Just get out, Doris. I'll assign you a new artist. Don't disappointagain. Even if you jump ship to another company, you won't get the sbase pay. Think about it—you're getting a share of the profits here." That's why Doris couldn't leave WAJA Media.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtShe looked at Athena with a heavy heart. They weren't just agent and artist-they were friends.
But now, no one could save Athena. The boss had his eyes on her and wouldn't stop until he got what he wanted.
Athena didn't look at Doris. Her mind was elsewhere, planning what kind of stew she should make to win over Tyler.
Until a contract landed next to her—it was the one she'd signed with WAJA Media. With two years left on the contract, getting shelved now would be a disaster.
The entertainment world moves fast. If she was benched for two years, by the tshe returned, her fans would have moved on, and no one would be waiting for her.
"Athena, if you're shelved for two years, you'll lose everything. Like I said, if you just get in bed and make it worth my while, I can forget about this." Anna was sitting right beside him when he said this.
But she didn't stop him. Everyone knew about Jacob's preferences in bed. If Athena agreed, she'd probably leave half-dead, satisfying Anna's desire for revenge for that slap.
Anna's eyes were full of glee, convinced that Athena was doomed tonight.
Jacob thought so too. Nobody wanted to be benched for two years.
But Athena looked up, her eyes calm.
"Okay, go ahead and shelve me." Her tone was so calm it was as if she were commenting on the weather.
Jacob was incredulous, and when he finally processed what she said, he was furious.
"Are you playing games with me?" Athena found this amusing and took a step back.
But the two bodyguards at the door blocked her way, and Jacob's face darkened.
"Athena, you don't have the final say here. Do you think this is a playground where you can cand go as you please?" Athena narrowed her eyes. "Before coming here, I called the cops. Are you sure you want to make a move?" Jacob's face flushed with anger, but there was fear that she might be telling the truth.
If he forced himself on her and the cops showed up, the whole company would be in trouble.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmAnna couldn't sit still any longer. How was this not going according to plan? How could this little brat just accept being shelved so quickly? Wasn't she supposed to give in to Jacob's demands and be ruined? "Damn it! You!" She got up to slap Athena again, but Athena caught her hand and shoved her aside. Anna nearly spat blood, feeling as if her back was broken.
Athena dusted off her hands, looking completely at ease.
"Boss, if there's nothing else, see you around." Jacob's face had never looked so sour. He finally realized that Athena had sserious skills, like she'd trained in self-defense for years.
But had she really only trained for a few years? The guards he'd assigned to Anna were professionally trained for five years, yet they couldn't handle Athena. It didn't make sense. As Athena walked out of the office, she saw Doris standing not far away.
Doris's face was full of reluctance. They both knew Doris wouldn't be with her anymore.
Athena raised her hand and patted Doris's.
"These years withmust have been tough. I know you're incredibly talented. I'm sorry, Doris. You can take on other artists now. Let's meet again in two years." Doris took a deep breath and knocked Athena on the head.
et "I don't know what you're thinking. Are you really going to hit a brick wall with Tyler? Don't say I didn't warn you-if you're a mess in two years, I won't be helping you out." Athena remained calm, as if she knew exactly what she was doing.
Doris had always found Athena hard to read. Sometimes she seemed to care about money, and other times she seemed not to care about anything at all.
