"Okay."
Since Philip had said there was no need to understand, he decided not to dwell on it. His gaze finally landed on Isaac, who was now
lying on the ground, slowly reaching out a hand.
Though she hadn't looked at Phil, she seemed to know exactly where he was standing. In her palm was a small insect, still very
much alive.
The last tPhil had caught an insect and brought it to Philip, who had crushed it under his foot. Since then, Phil had been on the
lookout for a new one, to no avail.
Now Isaac had produced one, which suggested that she had been the one to prepare the last insect too, unbeknownst to Phil.
Seeing the blood-stained insect, a spark of excitement flickered across Phil's face. He reached out to take it, but was stopped by
Philip.
"Don't touch it; it's dirty."
It was smeared with blood. Phil obediently refrained from touching it, though his eyes remained fixed on the insect, "Okay."
Isaac held it out for a while, but when Phil didn't cto take it, she slowly let go, finally allowing herself a glance in his direction.
The last thing her eyes rested on was his innocent, uncomprehending gaze. Yes, he had always been like this, oblivious to
everything, just as he was in the beginning.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtThe insect, still alive, struggled for a moment on the ground before crawling away. Phil didn't look at Isaac again. Instead, he
turned to the monitor behind him.
The screen was still displaying a scene of massacre. He wanted to ask Philip whose demise they were witnessing, but sensing
Philip's foul mood, he held his breath, silently dragging a chair over to sit down.
Three minutes passed before Philip spoke up.
"She's dead. Does that bother you?"
"Who?"
Phil's question silenced Philip, who suddenly realized how redundant his own query had been.
Why had he asked that? Living like Phil, unburdened and carefree, was the happiest existence. He wasn't weighed down by others’
words, nor did he feel the need to prove anything.
The more one tried to prove something, the more it showed they cared about the opinions of others.
He chuckled lightly, "Nobody, just a pitiable soul. Keep an eye on the monitors for me. Find lan and his crew. They're not leaving
this place."
"Philip, what about you? Are you leaving?"
Though Phil was slow on the uptake, he knew an earthquake was imminent and wondered if Philip intended to leave alive.
If Philip were to die, Phil didn't want to live either. He was about to say something when he noticed the insect from before suddenly
fly up and land near his hand.
While Philip was distracted, Phil carefully pocketed the insect. He still yearned for insects and leaves.
Elsewhere, the central hall was in complete disarray. Researchers were scrambling everywhere while the test subjects, like
unleashed weapons, rampaged through the crowds.
lan spotted Walter heading their way. Walter was skilled, and now that all the test subjects were free, he headed straight for
Dylan's containment box.
Dylan was still hanging there, but a girl had fiercely protected him. Any test subject that tried to harm Dylan was repelled by her
ferocious snarls.
lan arrived just in time, with Sarah in tow.
"This one, besides Test Subject 8, is the most formidable. She doesn't have a nyet and is the only female who's been
successfully modified. Her genes are exceptional; any children she has will be geniuses among geniuses. The researchers have
been trying to find her a mate, but she only kills. She shows no interest in the men they put in her cell. It seems she's quite content
with this one; the urge to protect must be a strange emotion for her."
Sarah's pupils constricted slightly when she saw Dylan's face. A frown creased her brow. He looked familiar, but she couldn't place
where she had seen him before.
Walter was about to rescue Dylan when the girl pounced, grappling with him. He was formidable, but after a dozen moves, he was

At that moment, lan stepped forward and flipped the switch for the chains. Dylan was released. The girl, as if triggered, kicked
Walter away and rushed at lan.
lan dodged her assault, but her attacks were fierce. He pushed Dylan forward to use him as a shield. The girl halted her attack,
glaring furiously at lan.
Dylan woke then, weak and groggy. His gaze met the girl's, and a flicker of joy appeared in her eyes, "Ah?"
She wasn't fluent in speech yet, but she quickly snuggled up to him, took his hand, and kissed it gently.
