Chapter 1045

Zoey clicked a picture of her, spruced it up a bit, and then let Wilma upload it on her Twitter account.

[I’m sorry to have worried everyone. I just woke up. Some of my team leaders from the company have been with

me in the hospital. I’m okay now. I hope my fans will refrain from any extreme actions and won’t harm those who

have stood by me through this. This incident wasn’t the company’s fault; none of us expected it to happen.]

This tweet quickly trended on Twitter, which eased some of the negative attention aimed at Star Movie Group.

Upon seeing this, the fans who had been keeping vigil outside the company’s office slowly dispersed.

The police would handle those fans who had let their anger bubble over to the point of smashing windows.

Maja rose and looked out the window. There were still many fans gathered below, but at least she could leave now.

It was then that Zoey reminded her, “Mr. Penny feather, it’s seven o’clock. You have a gala to attend.”

Maja nodded, instructed Wilma to rest well, and then quickly left.

Meanwhile, the atmosphere at Greenfield Gardens had turned somber.

From six o’clock onwards, the servants kept glancing at the clock on the wall, but Maja never showed up.

The top–notch styling team that had been hired was waiting in the living room for Maja.

lan’s look was already prepared, and he had even arranged a tuxedo for Maja.

Although he had been annoyed with her for brushing him off lately, he couldn’t continue this cold war, especially

when they were attending the gala together.

However, as the clock struck six–thirty, the stylists started to express their concerns.

“Mr. Raymond, the gala begins at seven, and it will take at least an hour to get Maja ready.”

In other words, if Maja didn’t show up soon, they would all be late.

lan didn’t respond, but anyone could tell that his aura had turned even colder.

When seven o’clock rolled around, the time the gala was supposed to start, Maja was still nowhere to be seen.

His eyes hardened, and he stood up, figuring that she must have forgotten about the event.

“No need to wait for her any longer. You all may leave.”

He had to leave as well; after all, it was his close friend’s birthday gala.

None of the stylists dared to ask any further questions, knowing that his mood was far from good.

lan got into his car without uttering a word.

Jeff, who was in the driver’s seat, silently drove him to the Haskins family’s residence.

Upon arriving, lan had barely stepped out of the car when a sweet female voice rang out from nearby.

“lan!”

The voice belonged to Judith.

Judith and Beck had just arrived as well.

lan didn’t reply; he simply adjusted his cufflinks nonchalantly.

Judith was already standing next to him, a smile on her face.

“What a coincidence that we arrived at the same time. How about we go in together?”

Beck, standing next to Judith, looked at lan’s unimpressed expression and said, “Hey, my sister is talking to you. Are

you deaf?”

“Beck!” Judith chided him in a playful tone, then sweetly turned to lan. “lan, let’s go in together.”

lan neither rejected nor accepted her suggestion; he simply walked quietly along the red carpet and into the

mansion.

Judith followed closely behind him.

To her left was lan, and to her right was Beck. Their group was the most eye–catching presence wherever they

went.

Even though there were many bigwigs at the gala, the moment the front door opened, almost all eyes were on

Judith.

Just like the reviews about her back in North America, having these two men as her escorts, she was indeed a

princess.

Judith’s smile was radiant. She alternated between chatting with lan and Beck.

Her entrance stole the limelight, making the other ladies envious.

Judith didn’t feel smug about this; to her, it was only natural.

Perhaps only a country bumpkin like Maja, who hadn’t experienced such an event, would find it dazzling.

Judith greeted the people around her with a smile, just like she would at a banquet in North America.

She felt that the women were jealous of her and the men wanted her attention.

Without hesitation, Judith leaned in closer to lan and asked softly, “Why did you come alone, lan?”

She seemed oblivious to Maja’s existence.

Her question pricked at lan; he didn’t say anything, only lowering his gaze.
