Chapter Ten
RILEY
My father was alive, and maybe he did know where exactly | was, but he never visited, not once.
Back in the Windborne pack, | had watched the other pack members with both their parents, but | had only my
mother to rely on. | wanted a father; | felt like there were so many things | could learn from him, but he was
never there.
My mother believed Slade had been my father, and it turned out she was wrong, which means she didn’t know
who my father was. But Daemon did. Maybe he was lying, but for sreason, | believed him. What | couldn't
understand was how he knew so much.
In the past, | had wanted to find my father; | could give anything to see him and know who he was, but now,
knowing that he was alive and never bothered to check onor my mother, | concluded he wasn’t worth it. |
didn’t think he deserved to be called a father; all he ever was was a sperm donor. He was no family to me.
Yet Daemon said only he could helpget rid of ‘my darkness‘. Maybe with that gone, | could finally fit in;
maybe the whispers would stop. | wanted that. | was yet to tell Thane anything about Daemon. It wasn’t wise to
keep secrets away from him, but | knew he would be disappointed inif he knew that | had been so close to a
demon; he would think | was a fool for risking my life. | was going to tell him everything; | just needed some
time.
At that moment, | felt a twinge of pain in my abdomen. | took a seat, hoping it would ease the pain, but it didn’t.

“Thane!” | called out, but he wouldn't hear me. Damn those soundproof doors.
“Riley.” A voice called, and I looked up, noticing it wasn’t Thane but Daemon. I didn’t have tto react.
“I need a healer; it hurts!”
He nodded, easily pickingup and walking out of the room. I noticed how Daemon walked through the
passageways like he was familiar with it. We got stares-a lot of those, but at this moment, | couldn’t bring myself
to care.
Daemon's skin was cold-too cold.
He pulled open the door to the healing room. Shealers were already present.

Without asking any form of question, they tookfrom his hands and placedon the bed.
“Mister. You have to leave.” One of the healers said to him, but Daemon's eyes were on me; he didn’t seem to
have acknowledged what the little lady just said.
| groaned again in pain, and Daemon walked to me, gripping my hand. I thought | saw his eyes glow, and finally
the pain reduced.
The healers tore off my gown and quickly went to work, but Daemon remained by my
side, firmly holdinands.

“At first, | thought it was a regular contraction, but it wasn’t; | can’t read it because it's no normal werewolf
reaction.” Daisy said to me, “But with these pills, it would lessen the pain.”
She passed the pills to Daemon, and | noticed her eyes lingering. He didn’t seem to notice her looking.
“I've never seen you in this pack; are you a new member?” Daisy asked him.
“I am no pack member. | am a family friend‘ he said shortly, and she nodded but never did stop looking.
When we were finally alone, | turned to Daemon.
