Chapter Two Hundred and Fifty Four
| sat in front of Thane’s door the whole night, pleading and begging, but he never did come, and finally I rose.
| had lost him, and it tookthis long to see that. | hadn't only lost Axel; | had lost Thane’s
love too.
How did my life turn into this? One moment it all felt like a fairy tale, one | didn’t want to wake up from, and now
it was a complete nightmare.
Sdays | questioned the point of my own existence; | had no use remaining here, and yet, | didn’t want to
leave, maybe because | still had hope that one day Thane would forgive me.
| lay on my bed staring at the ceiling, ignoring the knock on the door. | didn’t want to see anyone right now, and |
knew for a fact that it wasn’t Thane. Whoever was behind the door persisted and it got annoying. | rose from the
bead, heading for the door. | pulled it open, the frown on my face that disappeared the moment | saw my
mother.
She hugged me, knowing exactly what | needed. | couldn't help but be a child again and cry in
her arms.

I let her in. “I'm sorry. | left you at the door; | just wasn’t in the mood...”

distraction, and | was willing to talk about any other thing but my very
sad life.
“No. Actually, | and Gabriel broke up.”
“What?” | asked, surprised; my mother never moved on from what had happened to her in her youth, and for the
very first tshe attempted doing so, this happened. “Why?”
“I just feel like it’s... wrong.”
“That isn’t reason enough, mom.
“Riley | know about what happened- at least | know spart of it-and | know that Nick was a bad guy; he is the
reason you are in pain, and he is the sreason the Beta was killed. Gabriel toldthe truth, even if the pack
has no idea about that. Gabriel covered up for Nick, just to protect his honor, one he didn’t deserve.” Mother
explained.
“Mom, what went on with Nick andhas nothing to do with your relationship with Gabriel. He makes you
happy, and that’s all that matters.

“You were the one that said you would live your life and letmake my own decisions.”
“I know... but that is easier said than done, and | care about you, Riley; no matter what, you will always be my
daughter, and you will always cfirst, even before my own wants, and so | cannot marry Gabriel.”
“And what if | tell you that | want you to do just that? The fact that | am unhappy doesn’t mean you would have
to too, so | want you to go back to Gabriel and make things straight with because if he told you the truth about
Nick, It means he cares, and he had no hand in this; he had no idea about Nick’s plan.”
