Chapter Two Hundred and Thirty Five

“Riley, what is going on?” Thane questioned,

“Nothing...”

“No, just don't tellthat; don't lie to me, Riley something is wrong and you are keeping it from me. What is it?”

| remained silent because | had no response to his question.

“You think I don’t notice? The sudden desperation to tag along everywhere | go makes it seem like you are afraid to be left alone, like you are scared of

something, and | want to help you, Riley, but I have to know what is wrong to help you; you have to open up to me, Riley.”

“Just letbe, okay. | am fine.”

“No, you are not.” He said he wasn't going to let this go. “Are you sick?” he questioned, clearly concerned.

“I am not SICH to

its just...” | couldn't say the words. Thane waited, eyes hopeful; he was willing and | wish | could tell him everything, but I couldn't. “I still think about

Nick and I'm sorry | kept it a secret, | was just so furious at him for... everything.

Thane, he did this to me, and it had been all for his selfish gain; he said he didn’t want to be alone, and so he

madethis monster.”

“If you want Nick dead, all you have to do is say the words. You don’t have to go challenging him on your own.”

Thane says, and from the look in his eyes, he was dead serious. Of course | wanted Nick dead, but Bailey had

warnedagainst that, and | didn’t want any other person. to lose their lives on my account.

“Soon, Thane.”

He nodded before taking a seat on the bed. He patted the side, signifying that | should sit with him and that |

did.

“I know about your wolf being... dormant for now,” he says, and only then did it register in my mind that | didn’t

tell him about it; how could it have skipped my mind?

“I'm so sorry | didn’t tell you; there had just been so much going on...”

“It's okay, and you'll be fine, I'll help you recover her back.”

“And what if she is gone f

forever?”

I don’t lose hope that so easily. | don’t care if it takes years, decades even; we would find her again.” Thane

promises, and | nodded, a small smile forming on my lips.

Chapter Two Hundred and Thins Five

“The commander who requested your presence earlier, what did he want to show you?” | asked, though | already

knew the answer to that, but a part ofstill hoped that Bailey had been lying.

“A girl died very brutally. We have reasons to believe that whoever did that is also involved in Bailey's escape.

Investigations are being made, but something tellsthat whoever’s behind this wouldn't be easy to discover.”

His guess was not very far from the truth.

“Whoever was behind this would be discovered, and due justice would be served.” | said, feeling like a complete

hypocrite.

“Enough talk about the deaths and everything; let's talk about something else.

“Like what?"

“Like you.”

“You know everything about me; perhaps you knowmore than | know myself.”

He laughed. “That can’t be right.”

“But it is.” | insisted, and then my eyes met him. You are so handsome, | am almost jealous.”

“It only sounds like a compliment when I hear it from you. I love you, Riley; you've changed.in a way no one has ever done, and I like this change.

“In what ways exactly did | change you?”

“I had never once been one to compromise, but when it comes to you, | can do just that.” He says, and | remember that day he saved my mother’s life. |

had been so surprised, | thought he would kill her, but he... compromised. “You taughthow to feel, and that is the greatest gift anyone has ever given

me.”
