Chapter 1337
Her belly was completely flat.
"A while back, | had gained a bit of weight, so | already had a little bit of a belly. Then, when | got pregnant, there
was a slight bump. It wasn't that obvious, but you could tell. But now, look! There's nothing left." No fat.
And no baby.
Nina was stunned. She struggled to speak, "The baby... the baby's gone?"
For a mother, there was no greater pain than losing a child. Nina knew just how much Lydia had looked forward
to this baby, and as a mother herself, she could deeply empathize.
In that moment, words felt so inadequate. Nothing she could say would ease the pain in Lydia's heart.
"Yeah," Lydia nodded. "Right after | lost the baby, | was in a daze. My mind was blank. | couldn't make sense of
anything. But I'm not stupid. After | got off the operating table, a lot of things started to make sense. Mrs. Perez

Lydia wished she could go back in tand slap ssense into herself. How could she have clung to hope,
again and again, that Mrs. Perez would accept her?
She wanted a happy ending, but not everyone shared that dream.
Mrs. Perez would never approve of her. Pregnant or not, she would never becthe daughter-in-law Mrs. Perez
wanted.
"And what about Quincy? How does he feel about all this?"
"I don't know, and | don't really care. This child is gone, and we're done. Even if he has a huge fight with his mom
and they never speak again, is that going to bring my child back?" Lydia had cto terms with it.
Besides, blood would still be thicker than water. No matter what happened, a mother and her child could never
truly be estranged.
She didn't have any proof that Mrs.
Perez was behind it. It was just a suspicion. Even if she did have proof, what would it lead to? A lawsuit? A
chance to get smoney out of them?
What good would that money do her?
It was better to just walk away, cut all ties, and slowly let go of the feelings she once had.
"Don't think about it anymore. You have to take care of yourself," Nina said softly. "I've heard that a child and
their mother share a bond. He might cback to find you someday."
Lydia shook her head, her sadness deepening. "I'd rather he didn't. | failed him once already. He deserves a
better family."
"Don't say that. No one could have foreseen such a horrible thing, and no one expects a grandmother to be so
heartless." Nina was still reeling from what she had heard.
Mrs. Perez had killed her own grandchild, Quincy's own flesh and blood!

"Let's not talk about it. | have no proof, it's just my suspicion. Either way, Quincy and | aren't meant to be
together," Lydia took a deep breath.
Then, a thought crossed her mind. "Do you think it'd be okay if | cto stay with you for a while?"
After all, the York family had a huge villa with plenty of space. One more person wouldn't make a difference.
"If you're willing to takein, | can help you look after your child. Gemma is adorable."
Nina hesitated.
It wasn't that she didn't want Lydia to cover. As her friend, she wanted to be there for Lydia in her weakest
moment.
But she was afraid of putting Lydia
in danger. "I have to be honest with you. My family has been targeted recently. First, someone tried to poison
Gemma. Then today, | was ambushed by sthugs on my way home. If you cover now, I'm really worried
they might shift their focus onto you."
