Chapter 28 Aaron was feeling restless.
He raised his hand and caught Serena's chin.
Her head tilted back, exposing the graceful curve of her neck and shoulders.
Yet, her eyes held a deeper coldness.
Aaron's agitation only grew.
Just then, a clear knock cfrom the door.
Both turned simultaneously.
A man stood at the entrance.

It was James Lawrence, the chief attorney for Vance Enterprises. Aaron's mother had often sent him to find her.
Every time, it was the same-offering her money to leave Aaron.
James looked a bit awkward. He cleared his throat gently, "I hope I'm not interrupting?" Aaron frowned, suppressing his irritation, "Are we ready to go?" James glanced at Serena before responding, "Mr. Vance, all the paperwork is complete. You can leave whenever you're ready." Aaron acknowledged him with a nod but didn't rush to leave. Instead, he shot Serena a casual glance.
Serena sat poised in her chair, utterly still.
As if they were nothing but air.
Aaron's anger simmered beneath the surface. He pressed his fingers to his temple and spoke coldly, "Serena, don't you have anything to say?" Serena acted as if she didn't hear him, maintaining her slight head tilt.
James raised an eyebrow, surprised.
Although he hadn't interacted with Serena much, he knew she was always submissive in front of Aaron.
But the Serena before him didn't seem like a submissive woman.
Could Serena have returned to Northspire because she no longer loved Aaron? Even James, known for his logical thinking and respect for facts, found this hard to believe.
After all, Serena's devotion was so humble.
She couldn't possibly leave Aaron.
Aaron, ignored once again, finally lost his patience and began walking towards the door.
He moved slowly.
At the doorway, he halted, his dark gaze locking with Serena's eyes, "Serena, you know very well that if you don't go out tonight, you'll be spending the night at the police station!" "Where I spend the night is none of your concern, Mr. Vance," Serena finally spoke.
Her words were sharp and barbed.
Aaron clenched his fist.

"Fine, spend the night here then," he threw over his shoulder as he strode out, leaving a trail of tension like a storm cutting through the room.
James watched Aaron's clearly furious back, then turned to Serena, Eremained expressionless in the small room. At that moment, he almost believed Serena wanted the breakup.
He followed Aaron.
At the exit, Aaron paused, turning to James coolly, "Handle her release. If anything goes wrong, I'll be left covering her medical bills." James was left speechless.
After Aaron's car drove off, James returned to the station. "I'd like to post bail for Serena," he announced. The officer, an old acquaintance of James, chuckled, "Miss Sullivan was just bailed out. Didn't you see?"
James was taken aback and hurried to the door, spotting a gentleman holding the door open for Serena not far away. The man had a refined face and a gentle demeanor. Standing with Serena, they exuded a peaceful harmony.
