Chapter 870

Manley couldn't help but be intrigued by the mysterious tone in Hayes's voice.

"So, what are you thinking? How do you plan to prove it?"

Hayes gave Manley a measured look. "You don't need to know all the details right now. When | figure out the

solution to the wafer technology, I'll tell you."

Manley was completely lost.

Hayes always spoke in such cryptic riddles that Manley felt hopelessly clueless.

He had spent all this thelping Hayes track down that mysterious user online, and now that they'd finally

uncovered the real identity, he figured their mission was finished.

Who could have guessed that after all that, they'd ended up right back at the wafer technology again?

As the two kids continued their discussion, Jocelyn cin, balancing takeout containers in her arms. The

midday sun had left a sheen of sweat across her forehead, making her look both tired and determined.

"What are you two doing out here? Why aren't you upstairs yet?"

The boys exchanged glances, wide-eyed and silent, then turned to Jocelyn and chorused in perfect sync, "We

were waiting for you!"

Jocelyn's stern expression softened into a gentle smile, her brows relaxing. "Well, let's go up together, then."

"Okay!" they replied, again in unison, hurrying to take the food from her hands and skipping ahead, their spirits

lifted.

Manley, however, lagged behind with an ice cream cone he'd somehow scored, pausing every few steps to take

a lick. He might not have been the brightest, but he was undeniably endearing.

The three of them soon made it back to the hospital room. Marguerite sat up in bed, looking pale and listless.

She glanced over the takeout and turned to Maurice for his preference.

"There's soup, srice bowls, and a light broth. What would you like?"

Maurice's gaze was full of warmth. "I can only manage the soup."

Marguerite took out the container, dragged a chair closer, and got ready to feed him.

Maurice looked at her with such gentle surprise, as though he'd never expected to find himself in a moment like

this.

"If you don't want to feed me, just pull the tray over. | can eat on my own."

Marguerite knew he was being contrary. She lowered her eyes but didn't move the tray.

"You're badly injured. You shouldn't waste your energy talking."

Her words were brusque, but for Marguerite, that was as close to tenderness as she got.

Maurice almost felt grateful he'd taken that bullet for her otherwise, he'd never have experienced this

sweetness.

Just as Marguerite was about to lift a spoonful to his lips, Hayes hurried over. "Mom, you eat. I'll help Uncle

Maurice."

Marguerite raised her brows, surprised. "Are you sure? Don't spill the soup on Uncle Maurice."

Hayes puffed out his cheeks. "I can do it!"

Jocelyn watched with a fond smile. "Hayes is growing up. He wants to help his mom. Let him try, Marguerite."

With Jocelyn's encouragement, Marguerite handed the bowl to Hayes.

Hayes leaned in, concentrating hard as he offered a spoonful to Maurice. "Here, Uncle Maurice-eat!"

Maurice's face fell for a fraction of

Hayes glared at him, unconvinced by Maurice's polite smile.

Hmph! As if I'd let you get close to my mom so easily.

Still, if he wanted to get closer to Maurice, maybe he could finally get his hands on

that wafer technology.

He'd seen the word "wafer

belonged to Maurice-maybe it was hidden in his company somewhere?

Hayes's mind drifted as he absentmindedly fed Maurice two more spoonfuls.

Just then, Janie stepped into the

room, her tone brisk and

professional. "Mr. Ward, there's a swarm of reporters at the company. We're preparing for crisis

statement."

Marguerite set down her meal and stood up. "He can't go right now. I'll go with you."

"Thank you, Ms. Lockwood. Mr. Winston, is that all right with you?"

Maurice offered Marguerite another gentle look. "Thank you for handling this."

She shook her head, brushing it off, but Hayes's eyes lit up in surprise.

Mom is going to Maurice's company?

He'd been searching everywhere for a way in-and now, the opportunity had just fallen into his lap!

This was perfect.

He seized the moment, blurting out, "Mom! | want to go too!"
