Chapter 849
Just as his lips were about to meet Marguerite's, she raised her hand and slapped him.
The sound was sharp, echoing in the room.
Marguerite could clearly see the five distinct finger marks on the man's face.
"Are you out of your mind? Get a grip, will you?"
Marguerite yelled, shaking her hand, which was slightly sore from the impact.
It was odd-why did his skin feel so strange, almost as if it wasn't flesh at all? Before she could dwell on it, Stella
rushed over, having heard the commotion between the two.
She thought they were in a full-blown fight and quickly positioned herself in front of Marguerite, protectively,
looking at Silas with panic in her eyes.
"Mr. Ward, harassing a lady could land you in jail! Don't you dare lay a finger on my sister-in-law!"
Silas remained silent, his eyes never leaving Marguerite.
Marguerite's heart was pounding, unsure if it was from the almost-kiss or genuine anger.
Her breathing was uneven, and she finally understood what he meant by "testing" her.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtHe was trying to see if she had any feelings for him.
Marguerite looked at him coldly for a moment, her words cutting: "Don't waste your time. No matter what you
do, I won't care."
"And if | marry Violet, would that not bother you at all?"
Marguerite watched his chest rise and fall, suddenly speechless.
Silas marrying Violet was something she had always thought she wanted.
But why did her chest feel so heavy?
Stella stood between them, glancing from Marguerite to Silas, then wisely stepped aside.
"I'll be having a wedding next Wednesday. If you show up, I'll take you away."
Marguerite felt like she'd just heard something unbelievable.
What kind of proposition was this?
It was almost like he was asking her to crash the wedding.
Why did this feel so familiar?
When Maurice had forced her into marriage, she'd said the sthing to Frederick.
For a moment, Marguerite saw in Silas's eyes a glint she'd only ever seen in Frederick's-bold, determined, and
just a bit rebellious.
He seemed so sure she would cto him.
"Don't count on it. | won't be there. You're willing to hurt another innocent woman just to test my feelings? Silas,
that's cruel."
Silas didn't argue further, simply stated, "Next Wednesday, I'll be waiting."
With that, he turned and left.
As he walked out the door, Stella quickly reminded him, "Mr. Ward, use the back door! Don't let Maurice see
you!"
After Silas left, Stella nervously opened the door, peeking outside to ensure the coast was clear. Once satisfied,
she closed the door and returned to Marguerite's side.
"Sis, how do you have such a knack for this? Even the Vice Chairman of an international trade organization is
wrapped around your finger!"
Marguerite's mind was a whirlwind, dodging Stella's comment with a question of her own: "What exactly is going
on? Did Silas ask you to bringhere?"
Stella didn't elaborate, instead heading to the desk to retrieve a camcorder, which she handed to Marguerite.
"As usual, | record all my sessions with patients so | can review them later. So whatever happened, you can see
for yourself."
