Chapter 808
Marguerite was caught off guard by Silas's words.
Was this his way of confessing?
Instead of feeling happy, she found herself more confused by what he said.
"Don't pin everything on me, Silas. You sound just like a player right now."
Silas leaned back on the couch, his eyes suddenly shimmering with a pleading look as he gazed at Marguerite.
"Then tell me, what should | do?"
"What does that have to do with me? | don't love you."
"You letcand go from your apartment as | please. You knew | was a stranger and didn't change the lock
code. When | showed up just now, you didn't seem surprised. So, Marguerite, can you really claim you're being
honest?"
His eyes, so much like Frederick's, shone brightly, deep and endless like the ocean.
Marguerite met his gaze, almost ready to surrender and lose herself in it.
He was right.
Since Silas left the apartment yesterday, she had plenty of tto change the code.

She didn't want to figure out why she acted this way, so when Silas bluntly pointed it out, she felt both guilty and
angry.
"Silas, stop pretending you knowso well. I've never loved you, and | never will. We've only known each other
for three days. Your love may ccheap, but mine doesn't. | have someone | love, my husband, and I'll never
love anyone else in this lifetime."
Silas kept his eyes fixed on her.
She mentioned her husband, yet he was surprised to find himself not angry at all. A wry smile played on the
corners of his lips. "Oh? You don't say. | almost forgot we've only known each other for three days. It feels like
much longer."
Marguerite was exasperated. "Silas, why can't you understand what I'm saying? Can you focus on the main point
here?"
"What does your husband look like? Didn't you say my eyes are very similar to his? | don't mind being a stand-in
for him."
His confession was so straightforward, yet it caught Marguerite off guard.
She furrowed her brow in frustration, and seeing Silas's amused expression only fueled her anger.
"Silas, you have a fiancée, and she's my colleague. Stop dragginginto this. Just because she likes you
doesn't mean | do, understand?"
"What are you trying to say?"
Marguerite looked at him quietly. All she wanted was peace, and she knew she had to use harsh words to drive
him away.
"Silas, take a good look in the mirror and see if there's anything about you that matches me."
He suddenly looked deeply hurt. "So, Marguerite, are you really that shallow?" His words struck a nerve in
Marguerite.
She looked into his sorrowful eyes, feeling as if a bullet had pierced her heart. She didn't understand why she
still cared about Silas's feelings at this point. But the words were already out, and there was no taking them
back.
So she pressed on, wounding him even more deeply.
"I'm shallow," she said coldly, each word deliberate.
Silas sighed softly, still not ready to give up. "What if I'm not what you think I am?"
Marguerite was momentarily stunned, then saw Silas's hand reaching towards his face, where a burn scar
marred his skin.
