Chapter 803
For a moment, Marguerite felt a tightness in her chest.
The news hit her so unexpectedly, she couldn't quite process it all at once.
While everyone else was still wrapped up in the joy of the engagement party, Maurice took a sip of his
champagne and gave Silas a pointed look.
"You were just asking who invitedhere, weren't you? Well, nobody did. | cbecause of him."
Marguerite, however, wasn't listening to Maurice's words. Something had clicked in her mind, and she quickly
dug through her purse, pulling out the invitation. With trembling hands, she opened it up.
There it was, clear as day, under the section for the couple: Silas and Violet.
If only she had peeked at the invitation last night, she might have spared herself from facing this today. If she'd
known, perhaps she wouldn't have cto the engagement party at all.
The thought of Silas marrying Violet, picturing them so in love, made it hard for Marguerite to even breathe.

Her emotions were a whirlwind of confusion, and she couldn't quite put a finger on why she felt this way.
Oblivious to Marguerite's turmoil, Maurice carried on, painting his grand vision.
"Silas is the rising star in the trade organization and now the newly appointed vice-chairman. If we can leverage
him to export the wafer technology abroad, the Winston family's status will skyrocket."
Already on edge, Marguerite's anger flared at Maurice's words.
"Are you out of your mind? You're skating on thin ice with the law here, and now you want to mess with
international laws?"
Maurice gave her a knowing look. "Have | broken any laws? Remember, Marguerite, the wafer technology
contract was signed under Frederick's name."
A buzzing filled Marguerite's head, and she barely restrained herself from shouting, though she kept her voice
low and controlled.
"Frederick's dead, Maurice. Why can't you let him rest? This is nothing but revenge!"
"Yes, it is revenge," Maurice replied, with a disarming honesty that left Marguerite speechless.
She saw the fierce ambition blazing in his eyes.
Then he added, "Frederick took our daughter from us. Why shouldn't | want revenge?"
With measured words and clenched teeth, Marguerite retorted, "Teresa was never your daughter, Maurice!"
Before she could see his reaction, the rising commotion around them caught her attention.
Violet's voice cut through the crowd, laden with panic, "Silas, what's wrong? Please, don't scare me! Silas! Silas!"
Marguerite instinctively turned to see Silas on the red carpet, clutching his temple, half-kneeling on the ground.
His eyes, bloodshot, were locked onto Marguerite and Maurice with a complex mix of confusion, bewilderment,
and an indescribable sadness.
Was it another headache?
Without thinking, Marguerite retrieved the painkillers from her bag and, along with the others, rushed to Silas's
side.
