Chapter 672

"How on earth do you know me? | don't remember ever seeing you!" Miley was even more astonished.

"Well, | was a student at Blue Ridge University as well, just that when you were in your senior year, | was still in

prep. We even snuck into your graduation party. You sang ‘Trouble is a Friend" that night, and you just made quite

the impression on me. The moment you walked in just now, | recognized you. | figured you might miss the old

college days, so | brought this chocolate over for you to try."

Violet had a knack for quickly bridging gaps with people. In just a few words, she managed to close the distance

with Miley. But it wasn't just flattery; it was the kind of genuine sincerity that made you feel really comfortable.

Miley gave Marguerite a look and subtly gave a thumbs up, marveling, "Wow, Marguerite, you've really struck

gold! She's way sharper than you."

Violet laughed, "Oh, no, Ms. Goldie. The fact that Marguerite offeredthe assistant position is the real fortune

here."

Seeing how well Miley and Violet were getting along, and considering Violet had been with the company for a

while and knew the ins and outs, Marguerite didn't hesitate to bring up her concerns in front of her. "By the way,

any news from Penelope's end?"

Miley shook her head, "Nothing."

"Still nothing?" Marguerite's eyes widened in shock. "Not even a trace? Her clothes, shoes, nothing?"

"Nothing," Miley felt a bit down as she said it, sighing before adding, "The police said today that if they don't find

anything in a few more days, they might have to declare it a missing person case."

"And if they declare her missing, then what?"

"We hold a funeral. The police were pretty clear today, saying even if they find her, after being in the water for

two weeks, there's absolutely no chance of survival."

Marguerite's eyes welled up at that, "...How are Robert and Hackett holding up?" "Robert's been doing a bit

better. Hackett, well, you know. Crying every day, looks years older."

Marguerite was at a loss for words.

Suddenly, Miley pulled out a blue envelope, the size of an A4 paper, from her bag and handed it to Marguerite: "I

saw this parcel for you at the front desk when | was coming up, thought I'd bring it along."

"For me?" Marguerite looked puzzled. "Who's it from?"

"I glanced at the return address; it's from the Stonebridge City police station."

The police station?

With Miley mentioning this, Marguerite was even more bewildered. She immediately opened the envelope to find

a USB drive and a piece of A4 paper inside.

Miley leaned in, "What's it?"

Marguerite stared at the paper for a long moment: "Penelope made a call toon the day something happened

to her. This paper records the transcript of our phone conversation."

Apparently, the police had managed to retrieve the call record between her and Penelope.

And the USB? It contained the auof the call.

"But it's so weird, why is it only what | said? Why aren't Penelope's words transcribed?"

Miley was puzzled, "What did my mother-in-law say to you?"

"The signal was bad. | only heard her askingto wait for her at the office; couldn't make out the rest. That's

why the police took our phones to retrieve the conversation."

Miley quickly put two and two together, "Could it be they could only retrieve what you said from your phone, but

my mother-in-law's side of the conversation could only be found on her phone? But if they've retrieved your part,

they must have gotten hers too, right?"

Upon hearing this, Marguerite hurriedly searched for a business card from a detective named Abbey but couldn't

find it.

Violet, ever organized, pulled out a card from a drawer and handed it to Marguerite with both hands:

"Marguerite, are you looking for this? | saw this police station card a few days ago, thought you might need it, so

| kept it for you."

Taking the card, Marguerite saw it was indeed Abbey's. She quickly made the call.

She had to find out, whatever it took, what Penelope's last call to her was about, what urgent matter she wanted

to discuss!
