Chapter 687

“Say no more, Layla will definitely win! Eddy will surely help Layla. He even helped her with Evanson Corp. He didn’t

say a word when she failed to manage it and gained some backlash. Instead, he helped her out of the mess!”

“I am aware of this as well. It’s precisely why I think Eddy will help her take over the Collins Group.”

“That’s bullshit! That was in the past. Eddy doesn’t even want to talk to Layla anymore. Otherwise, she would’ve

been long out of prison.”

“If you don’t have pictures of it, you can’t prove it. If Layla reads this, she could sue you for defamation.”

“Hilarious! Do you think she can view these posts now? If you know nothing about this, just keep your mouth shut.

At Jude Morrison’s funeral, it was obvious who was supporting who.”

“Caroline was in charge of all the preparations for his funeral. Isn’t the problem clear enough?” “What did I just

read? Caroline took it upon herself to make the preparations for the funeral. Wow! Doesn’t this mean that the

Morrisons have acknowledged her as family already?”

“I feel the same way. Even though Eddy and Layla kept appearing publicly together it’s in the past now.”

“That’s enough. It was just a funeral. Maybe it was Jude’s dying wish, and Eddy was forced to oblige. You sure enjoy

overthinking, don’t you? Don’t forget that Caroline’s married now.”

“Caroline doesn’t stand a chance to be a Morrison. Do you really think the Morrisons would accept a once married

woman as their daughter–in–law?”

Things were chaotic online. Yet, Caroline and Marietta were having a ball on their trip together.

As their trip came to an end, Marietta hesitated to let go of Caroline’s hands. Thanks for keeping me company

today, Carrie. I feel much better now.”

“Haven’t I said before that you don’t need to thank me?” said Caroline. “Come and look for me if you ever feel

upset. I have lots of time on my hands, anyways.”

“Is that so?” Marietta smiled. “What about the homework I assigned you last time?” She was talking about the

unfinished script that she had asked Caroline to carry on writing.

“That goes without saying. I even wrote more than you asked me to,” said Caroline. “Ill show it to you when we’re

back.”

“Okay.”

Suddenly Kirk chose to speak. “Can we leave now?” His tone made it obvious that he was very much displeased

Marietta laughed. “Kirk, you’re doing it wrong. I was simply speaking to Caroline, yet you’re already upset. Should I

be mad at you for keeping her by your side all day long then?”

“Mom!” Caroline exclaimed.

“I was only joking with him, but you’re already coming to his defense.” Marietta just wouldn’t stop teasing them

both. “It seems to me that nobody will ever love me.”

They continued chatting on their way back home. When they arrived, Caroline still couldn’t stop worrying about

leaving Marietta alone. She asked Marietta to spend the night at her and Kirk’s place.

“I can show you my script.” Caroline pulled at Marietta’s hand to stop her from leaving. “Will you go upstairs?”

Marietta grinned from ear to ear. “I’m afraid someone wouldn’t want me to stay.” Her gaze fell on Kirk.

Kirk undoubtedly didn’t want Marietta to spend the night at their place. However, he knew all too well just how

worried Caroline was for her.

“Let’s go,” he said as he held the elevator doors open for Marietta, who tried to hide a smile.

If she didn’t see it for herself, she would never have believed that Kirk would ever give in to somebody. Caroline had

truly changed him.

When they reached the house, Caroline led Marietta into the study. Kirk sat on the couch to look over some

documents.

He had to be discreet and inconspicuous whenever he wanted to work, as he had told Caroline that he’d already

resigned. When she was nearby, he would switch tabs on his laptop. It appeared as though he was playing games.

Having lived like this awhile, Kirk somehow found it quite enjoyable. Sean teased him when he learned of his

working condition at home. He commented that Kirk was now the exact opposite of a workaholic.
