Chapter 280 One Whole Day

When Harrison returned from Old Mr. Smith’s place, he bumped into Louis, who had just returned from

outside. “You’re back.”

Louis grunted in acknowledgment. “Is Grandpa asleep?”

Harrison said, “Yes, he’s asleep. He’s already so old, and his health isn’t as good as before. He is

inevitably unable to withstand the stress at times.” Ever since Rachel left the Smith family, the Smith

family seemed to have run into bad luck.

Louis pursed his lips. “Mr. Zane’s wife is going to hold a charity banquet during this period. I’ll think of a

way to appease him so Grandpa will be less worried.”

“Of course, we all trust you to do the right thing.” Harrison patted Louis‘ shoulder. “Louis, your

grandfather has high expectations of you. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have handed the family business to

you.”

Louis grunted in acknowledgment offhandedly.

Sensing Louis‘ indifference, Harrison thought it was because Louis had been too tired running around

for the family recently. He merely said, “It’s getting late. You should rest early.”

“Okay,” Louis replied.

Louis watched as Harrison turned around and left. After some hesitation, Louis asked his father, “Dad,

did Grandpa talk to you about Rachel recently?” Shocked, Harrison asked, “Rachel? What’s wrong with

her now?”

Harrison probably felt uncomfortable after Rachel’s unreasonable request earlier. When he heard Louis

mention her name, he instinctively had an ominous feeling in his heart.

Louis pursed his lips and said absent–mindedly, “It’s nothing. I’m going back to my room to rest.”

He then went upstairs.

In the past, he had always thought he could control Rachel easily as he knew her very well.

Now he was having second thoughts after seeing what happened that night.

He stood in front of the window and smoked for a long time before calling a private detective. “Help me

investigate Rachel Grey. I want detailed

information about her. The more details, the better!”

After Rachel returned to her apartment, she quickly washed up before calling. David.

However, the other party called before her.

She could see his charming face on the screen of the phone.

The man had striking, well–defined facial features. His dark eyes were like bottomless pits, drawing her

in with their intensity.

His smile was as radiant and luminous as a full moon on a clear night, lighting up his entire face with a

warm and welcoming glow..

When he did not smile, his expression took on a distant and aloof quality, with his eyes seeming to

gaze off into the distance as if lost in thought.

His face was so handsome that one would find it difficult not to fall in love with it at the very first instant.

“Are you still awake?” Both of them asked in unison.

Momentarily stunned, the corners of Rachel’s lips curled up instinctively.

After a few seconds of silence, the man’s gentle and low voice slowly came through the phone. “I miss

you.”

Rachel happily covered her face partially under the blanket. She noticed the fatigue in the man’s eyes

and frowned. “You should rest early.”

“Don’t you miss me at all?”

“That sounds like an exaggeration to me.” Rachel refused to admit how she felt. “We’ve only been

apart for less than 24 hours.”

David said. “I only thought about you once today. I was thinking about you through the entire day.”

Despite his casual tone, his words still sent a flutter to Rachel’s heart.

“What should I do? I am not used to your sweet talk.”

David’s lips curled into a smile. “Sweet talk? I’m saying them from the bottom of my heart.”

Startled by David’s confession, Rachel did not know what to say for a long

time.

Amidst the silence, Rachel vaguely heard a cry for help from the other end of

the phone.

She frowned.
