Betrayal At The Altar By Dolores Delia Chapter 169
David approached Old Mr. Johnson and stopped in front of him. David lifted his head and said, “Old Mr.
Johnson, I should have visited you when I had just returned to Seaxas, but I was delayed by other
matters. Please forgive me.”
Old Mr. Johnson pursed his lips and said absent–mindedly, “Mr. Jones, you’re being too polite.”
After finishing his sentence, Old Mr. Johnson lowered his head to hide the gleam in his eyes.
Old Mr. Johnson held the cane in his hand and rubbed at the gem that was embedded in the dragon’s
eye at the head of the cane, seeming to be lost in thought.
The butler duly stepped forward to serve tea to David.
At this moment, Old Mr. Shain asked, “I wonder if Mr. Jones has met with Mr. Shain?”
Hearing Old Mr. Shain’s words, David raised his eyebrows and looked at Old Mr. Shain, “Didn’t Jimmy
inform you that he was going on an emergency business trip?”
Taken aback, Old Mr. Shain paused before he replied, “I see. Jimmy must have been in a hurry to leave
and forgot to inform me.”
As Old Mr. Shain spoke, he glanced at Old Mr. Johnson instinctively.

“How could there be such a coincidence?” Old Mr. Johnson pondered. Old Mr. Johnson’s intuition was
telling him that this seemed to have been purposely arranged by someone.
Old Mr. Johnson took a deep and long look at David, with his turbid filled with deep thought.

David sat in the head seat with his legs crossed. Even though David was silent, he still emitted a strong
and overbearing aura that made him seem as if everything was under his control.
Such a person was born to be a king and was definitely not someone who
would be easily controlled by ordinary people.
As the thought flashed in his mind, Old Mr. Johnson’s eyes darkened and he said, “Since you have a
guest, we’ll make a move first.”
“Why are you in such a hurry to leave?” Old Mr. Shain asked. “Since you’re already here, why don’t you
sit down and have a drink before leaving?” Old Mr. Shain suggested.
David gently set down the cup in his hand and said in a deep and cold voice, “Could it be that my
arrival has ruined Old Mr. Johnson’s mood?”
The moment when David had finished his sentence, the huge room was filled with a strange and eerie
silence.
A trace of panic flashed across Old Mr. Shain’s eyes as he said quickly, “Mr. Jones, what are you
talking about? It’s our greatest honor that you’re willing to show up here today!”
The words came as a surprise to everyone.
Although the people present did not know very well about Old Mr. Shain’s temper, they had heard a
thing or two about it.
There were only a few people in the whole of Seaxas whom Old Mr. Shain would look straight in the
eye, and treat with respect. However, Old Mr. Shain’s attitude towards David now was more than just
being polite.
Rachel’s eyes narrowed slightly as her probing gaze landed on Old Mr. Shain. Rachel was secretly
sizing Old Mr. Shain up and seemed to be lost in thought.
“What are you talking about, Mr. Jones? I’m just worried that I’ll ruin your mood,” Old Mr. Johnson said
calmly.
David’s neatly trimmed and clean fingers held the lid of the cup as he gently brushed away the tea

fateful encounters with me in the past. Old Mr. Johson, you’re being too polite.” David said calmly.
Old Mr. Johnson frowned imperceptibly when he heard David’s words. There was a grave look in Old
Mr. Johnson’s eyes, but it flashed past in an instant and was not noticeable.
Rachel quietly sized up Old Mr. Johnson.
“David had a few fateful encounters with the Johnson family in the past? “Why hadn’t my maternal
grandfather mentioned it to me before?
“Moreover, ever since my maternal grandfather had met David, he had seemed to be very nervous.”
Rachel pondered.
At this moment, the butler walked to Old Mr. Shain’s side and said in a low voice, “Sir, the banquet is
ready.”
Old Mr. Shain nodded slightly and stood up. “Everyone, please follow me and be seated.” Old Mr.
Shain said.
Everyone was seated. Perhaps it was an unlikely coincidence, but there was only one empty seat left,
and that seat was right beside David’s.
Rachel subconsciously looked up and stared at David, only to see him rise to his feet.
David pulled at the empty chair on his right and said, “Miss Grey, please.”
