| felt Ethan stiffen beside me. His amber eyes darkened dangerously as he

teaching her discipline. You know how spoiled she can be-"
The front door opened with perfect timing, interrupting my desperate explanation.

"Daddy!" she called out happily, spotting Ethan among the adults.
