Yolanda felt the cool night breeze brushing against her cheeks, and it actually lifted her mood a bit. Realizing Leo
was still lurking nearby, she couldn't help but frown. ‘What's he still hanging around for?‘ she wondered.
“Leo, what the hell do you want?” Yolanda snapped, unable to hold back her irritation.
‘Seriously, did he really chaseoutside in the middle of the night just to throw a few insults? There's no way
it’s just for that,’ she thought to herself.
Yolanda’s mind was a bit foggy, and Leo’s words made her pause. ‘Wait, does he mean | can do whatever | want
right now?‘ The question bounced around in her half-tipsy head, and she just stared at him for a second, not
quite sure if she'd heard him right.
Maybe it was the alcohol, but she leaned back, feeling a little dizzy. “Uh... well...”
‘I mean, it all depends on what he actually wants,’ she thought warily. ‘No way he expectsto help him chase
after Joelle Monroe. | would never agree to something like that.”
But before she could even get the words out, Leo couldn’t wait any longer and lunged in to kiss her.
Yolanda had dealt with this twice already, so she instantly slapped her hand over her mouth, stopping him in
his tracks.
Leo just switched targets and started smooching her hand, showering it with a whole bunch of noisy pecks, not
bothered in the slightest.
The sound only made Yolanda’s head swim even more, and as she tried to turn away, Leo just got more fired up
and eagerly pressed kisses to her neck.
She finally cto her senses and slapped him—hard—right across the face.
She didn’t hold back at all; five bright finger marks bloomed across his cheek.
“Leo, it’s not like there's shuge grudge between us. Why do you have to humiliatelike this?” Yolanda
yelled, her voice trembling with anger.
Leo hung his head, licking the blood off the corner of his mouth. Damn, that hurt.
But what really pissed him off was that he'd taken the slap and still didn’t get a kiss out of it.
Leo scoffed, “Humiliate you? Seriously?”
“A couple kisses on your hand count as humiliation now?”
“Then what do you call all that stuff you do with your little boyfriend?”
Leo pressed his lips together, frustration all over his face. “Yeah, I'm humiliating you. So what? It’s not like you're
choosy about who gets to kiss you anyway! What's the deal with you and that Maine guy? | heard his girlfriend
tearing into you just now.“”

“Just who the hell are you to grillabout this? What, you think you have skind of authority over me?”
Yolanda fired back, voice trembling with fury.
Yolanda was so angry she felt dizzy, but Leo stalled for a few seconds before suddenly jumping up and shouting,
“Why do you care? | just love sticking my nose where it doesn’t belong! I'm worried you'll piss off Charles, and
when he goes off, no one’s gonna be there to bury what's left of you!”
Yolanda let out a bitter laugh, more exasperated than amused, and started to walk away.
But Leo suddenly pulled her into a hug, pressing his face heavily against her neck. “Don’t go...” he murmured,
his voice muffled and desperate against her skin.
Just then, her phone rang-it was Charles.
Yolanda shoved Leo away, quickly answered the call, and stepped into the elevator. “I'm on my way down. Yeah,
everything's fine.”
The elevator doors slid shut, and she didn’t even glance back at Leo’s face.
When Leo returned to the private room, Xavier was busy apologizing to the girl. “I swear, I'll beat the crap out of
him when we get back.”
Just as he finished speaking, Xavier spotted Leo walking in-now sporting a huge, red handprint splashed across
his face.
“Damn it!” Xavier cursed. “Who the hell slapped you?”
Leo might be a total screw-up, lazy as hell, and good for nothing, but the only people allowed to slap him around
were the Lawson family.
Leo was annoyed as hell, so he plopped down in a chair nearby. “Are we done eating yet? Can | bail now?”
Seeing Leo looking so down, Xavier hustled the girl out to her car, then cback and plopped himself right
across from his brother, all business now.
“Alright, spill it-got your eye on someone? Was it her who laid that smack on you?” Xavier asked, eyebrow
raised.
Xavier knew his brother too well. Leo always acted chill, like nothing ever got to him, but truth was, he had a
major attitude. If anyone pissed him off, he'd snap right back on the spot.
But now, Leo just sat there with that big ol’ handprint on his face, not a flicker of anger, not even talking about
payback. The only way he’d take that lying down was if it'd cfrom a girl he really liked.
“Shit!” Xavier muttered to himself. “My kid brother actually likes someone?”
‘No way, Leo’s got a crush?’
“Who is she? Look at you finally growing up! If Mom, Dad, and Grandma hear about this, they'll lose their minds
with joy. You should've said something earlier-would’ve saved you from all those dumb blind dates. Con, tell

Leo knew Xavier was just joking around, but hell, if he actually blurted it out, Xavier would probably haul him
straight over to Charles and make him kneel and confess for coveting his own brother's girl.
‘Lusting after your brother's woman? God, | freaking deserve to be thrown in a cage and dumped in the river,’
Leo cursed to himself.
It was all Yolanda'’s fault-why did she have to be so damn gorgeous, so fun to mess with, and have lips that just
begged to be kissed?
Annoyed as hell, Leo gave himself a quick slap on the forehead.
Xavier narrowed his eyes. “Seriously, who the hell has you so messed up right now?”
“Nobody! | don’t like anyone, alright?” Leo shot back, maybe a little too fast.
‘Me? Into Yolanda? As if! There's no way in hell | like her. What a joke,” Leo sneered inwardly, convincing himself
with every word.
‘As if! That'd only happen if | drop dead, Leo scoffed to himself.
When Yolanda finally got back to the car, Charles was clearly getting antsy.
As soon as she climbed in, he told Jack to hit the road and then pulled her into his arms.
Yolanda was right beside him, but her mind was already off in work mode. Frank Doyle's shares were practically
hers now-just one last obstacle left, Eric Long.
She closed her eyes and deliberately put on a troubled, anxious look.
Charles cupped her face in his hands. “What's wrong? Not happy?”
“No way, I'm actually super happy for Megan-she’s just being a worrywart. With all the online lately, she’s
scared I'm gonna end up all messed up in the head,” Yolanda replied.
Charles totally knew what was blowing up on the internet, but he purposely stayed out of it. It wasn’t because he
couldn't be bothered-it was because Yolanda insisted on taking care of Starlight’s business herself and wanted to
prove she could really do it.
‘If 1 don’t let her trip up a little out there, how's she ever gonna figure out how lucky she is to have a husband
like me?’ Charles thought.
Yolanda rested her head on his shoulder. “Honey, Megan kept my stuafloat for two years straight. Eric's mom
actually grew up in the stown as her. Back when Megan was just a kid with no parents, Eric's mom's family
really looked after her. Honestly, | still feel a bit guilty about it, so when Megan beggedto go easy on Eric, |
said yes-I just couldn't turn her down.”
This was a story she'd barely managed to scrape together. Eric's mom was actually Frank Doyle's sister, and
she'd passed away ages ago. At least the part about being from the shometown as Megan was true.
As for everything else? Totally made up.

Charles always felt guilty about Megan, so he'd never bother digging into the details. He just wanted all the
with her to be over already.
Sure enough, Charles frowned, a trace of frustration flickering across his face. ‘Of all people, why did it have to
be someone from Megan’s hometown?‘ he grumbled inwardly.
Yolanda nuzzled up against his arm. “Megan and | are super tight-she’s been a total mess lately, what with her
kid and husband . | just wanna see her smile again, okay? Pretty please? Babe, you're honestly the best.”
Charles leaned back and slid an arm around her waist.
“So... you really wantto let Eric go?”
“Yeah, his uncle is actually a top exec at Starlight. And since Megan asked me, | figured I'd do her a favor and
maybe build sgood connections-two birds, one stone. What do you think?” Yolanda said.
Charles had definitely already looked into the whole Eric Long and Frank Doyle situation.
If Yolanda didn’t mention it herself, he'd definitely get suspicious.
But by tying those two things together, he'd drop his doubts completely.
Charles was drawn to the playful glint in her eyes and let out a soft chuckle. “You clever little thing.”
