Mary was looking a lot better. When she noticed it was Rainie, she managed a small smile. “Rainie,
what brings you here?”
Rainie, jumpy as ever, grabbed the thermos Yolanda handed her and set it down on the bedside
table in a hurry
Ms. Hall, I heard you were hospitalized, so | cto see you. | made this soup-it should be good for
your health. I'll head out now,” Rainie said, sounding flustered.
She left so fast that Mary didn’t even have tto stop her.
Yolanda had just gotten there herself. Charles’s men had hauled in Ken and Wayne about an hour
ago, and now they were waiting for her to head over.
But she wasn’t in any rush. She figured she’d let them sweat it out a bit.
She popped open the thermos and saw that rich, milky bone broth inside, the aroma instantly
making her hungry. She couldn’t help but comment, “Looks like this took hours to simmer-she
really poured her heart into it.”
Mary gave a faint smile. Her head injury wasn’t serious, but she hadn’t slept well at all lately, and
the headache just wouldn’t quit.
‘Rainie’s always been a timid one, Mary thought, ‘but she’s got real potential. And she’s grateful for
what others do for her.”
Just then, her phone buzzed with a live stream notification.
She was following Sophie’s streams, and now, seeing Sophie had dragged those three into a group
livestream, Mary fumed so hard her chest heaved with anger.
The five of them used to be thick as thieves, but now with Rainie left out, the others were bound to
freeze her out sooner or later.
People are messy creatures, and the smaller the clique, the less they can stand anyone who dares
to do things differently.
Mary’s face flushed with anger, but Yolanda just reached over and switched off her phone.
“Stop watching that. Don’t waste Rainie’s kindness-just have ssoup,” Yolanda said.
Mary was overwhelmed, the heat from the soup making her eyes water. “I went out of my way for
Sophie, but she wasn’t worth it. You think you know someone, but you really don’t.”
Yolanda didn’t say anything, just grabbed her bag and got to her feet. “The Starlight stuff should be
wrapped up in about three days, so | probably won’t get a chance to see you for now. Take care,
okay? If things get rough, just hire a caregiver or something.”
Just as Yolanda finished speaking, the door opened and Rainie appeared again-she’d just left moments ago.

Rainie couldn't bring herself to meet Yolanda’s gaze Yolanda always seemed so elegant and untouchable, Rainie
felt completely out of her depth around her.
She’s way too classy for me. | don’t even have the guts to look her in the eye, Rainie thought, swallowing
nervously
Um Ms Grant, would it be okay if I... stayed to look after Ms. Hall for a bit? She’s helpedso many times
before, and | actually... I'm not busy right now...” Rainie stammered, looking a little lost.
| can’t tell them I've been left out... | just can’t handle being around those people anymore, Rainie thought,
feeling even more embarrassed.
Yolanda pretended not to notice anything and nodded. “Alright, thanks for helping out.”
Rainie looked up, nervous, and waved her hands. “Really, it’s no trouble at all! | owe her so much.”
Kids like her, who truly know how to be grateful... If anyone deserves to succeed, it's Rainie, Yolanda thought
with a quiet smile as she left.
Yolanda flashed Rainie a warm smile before slipping out of the room.
Rainie kept her mouth shut about anything Starlight-related and just perched awkwardly by the bedside. Mary
was the first to speak up, her tone soft, “Do you still have any money left for soup bones?”
Rainie’s cheeks went bright red in a flash, suddenly feeling super awkward.
Honestly, she was flat broke. With rent paid this month, she only had a hundred yuan to her name. At least their
place was close to work and the five of them split the bills, so she could scrape by-but now, the others were
probably going to toss her out.
Rainie swallowed hard, too embarrassed to admit the truth. “Yeah, I've got a little, Ms. Hall. I'm not here to ask
for money.”
Mary stared at the creamy soup in the thermos, and suddenly a wave of sadness hit her.
Being a woman was never easy. Back in Beloris, her family was just middle-class-not poor, but far from wealthy.
Then, all of a sudden in junior high, her parents passed away, and her world turned upside down. Relatives
nearly seized their house, and if she hadn't reached out to her teachers for help, who then found her a lawyer,
she would've lost everything.
Her teacher told her one thing back then: “With no one left to rely on, the only way out is to study hard. Books
are your ticket.”
Mary believed it. She clawed her way to the best university in the country, choosing the highest-paying major
she could find. But when graduation came, doors kept slamming in her face-people took one look at her and, just
because she was a woman, they already had a rejection speech lined up.
She couldn't accept that. She toughed it out in tiny basement rooms, fought through jam-packed subway rides,
went on business trips in freezing winters-just trying to survive. Eventually things finally turned around. She job-
hopped nonstop, and after years of hustling, she finally arrived at Starlight, earning herself a share in the
company.

When Mary was Rainie’s age, she was awkward and barely getting by, just trying to survive. At least she had that
house-a place she could call her own, somewhere to weather the storms.
Now, with real estate prices shooting through the roof, her two-hundred-square-meter apartment was worth
more than ten million Add in all those years of bonuses from Starlight, and in a city as pricey as Beloris, that put
her firmly in the middle class.
Mary knew she was luckier than Rainie-luckier by far.
Mary took a deep breath. “I'll transfer you smoney on WhatsApp-I’'m going to be in the hospital for another
couple of weeks, so just think of it as payment for sticking around and helping out, okay?”
Rainie’s face went white, and she jumped up from her seat, lips trembling. “Ms. Hall, | swear, I'm really not here
for the money.”
She finished speaking, blinking back tears as she quickly grabbed the water bottle. “I'll go fetch you swater.
Please, have ssoup first.”
Mary wanted to explain she didn’t mean it that way, but Rainie had already walked out.
“Who doesn’t have their pride? Who doesn’t want to live with a little dignity? Mary thought to herself.
Yolanda arrived at the villa address Charles had sent her. When she saw the line of bodyguards outside, she
instantly knew Ken and Wayne were inside.
She lingered at the doorway, hesitating, when she heard Ken’s voice inside, begging for mercy.
“Mr. Sinclair, seriously, we have no idea what we did! Can’t you just tell us straight?” Ken pleaded
desperately.
Wayne, meanwhile, was barely staying calm. He was convinced this was all just smistake on
Charles’s part -and once things were cleared up, they'd be released.
But then Yolanda walked in, all sweet and soft, and called out gently, “Honey.”
Charles was seated on the sofa and patted his lap, signaling for her to cover and sit.
He was here to stand up for her, so she saw no reason to refuse. After all, Charles was basically her
personal fixer for dealing with trouble now.
Yolanda quickly moved over and settled herself on his lap, looking all sweet and docile.
Ken’s face turned deathly pale the moment he heard her call him that.
“Yolanda, you bitch! What the hell did you just call him?!” Ken yelled, completely losing it.
In the next second, Wayne smacked him across the face. “That’s the CEO’s wife! Are you out of your
mind talking like that?”
Wayne was drenched in cold sweat as he finally understood who had Yolanda’s back. It was Charles-

Tismy must’ve known who Yolanda really was from the start, but he kept his mouth shut. Didn’t

Shit! Wayne cursed under his breath.
Wayne was livid, his mind spinning. Everybody in the business world knew what a shark Charles
was. His face went ghost-white and his hands trembled uncontrollably.
“Mr. Sinclair, we really didn’t know Ms. Grant was the CEO’s wife. If we’d had a hundred lives, we
wouldn’t have dared touch her. Please, believe me,” Wayne stammered, panic creeping into his
voice.
Ken was still too stunned to get what’s going on. For a second, he honestly thought Yolanda was
out of her mind-maybe she called every guy “husband” just for kicks.
But seeing even Wayne turn meek and give in, Ken finally realized the truth. Instantly, all the blood
drained from his face.
Wait... Yolanda is actually the CEO’s wife? She’s married to Charles?‘ Ken panicked, his head
spinning.
