Yolanda poured coffee for May, then for Renee and Charles as well.

May took a sip. She had never liked Yolanda, always feeling that a woman like her didn’t deserve Charles. So
when she saw Yolanda sit down, she frowned again.
“Yolanda, go help in the kitchen. Why are you sitting here?” May said. “The maids at Moonbay Estate all say you
haven't been cooking these past couple of days.
“You know Charles always loves your cooking. If you don’t cook and his stomach starts acting up, what then?”
In the past, whenever May picked on her, Yolanda would always look to Charles.
But today she didn’t. Instead, she simply stood up and went straight to the kitchen.
A flicker of surprise flashed in Charles's eyes. He looked at the coffee in front of him and, after a long while,
finally said, “Mom, why do you always have to make things hard for her?”
May was a little surprised. Before, whenever she gave Yolanda a hard time, Charles had never stepped in.
He was always busy-most of the time, the moment he sat down at home, he had to pull out his laptop to deal
with work. The rest of his twas spent fooling around with other women.
May knew her son too well. She knew he didn’t like Yolanda.
She sighed and said, “What exactly are you thinking? If you don’t want a divorce yet, then just let her have a
baby first, and later you can kick her out. Samuel might be capable, but he’s still not strong enough to shake
us.”
Samuel might be a rising star, but the Sinclair family had decades of foundation. They had nothing to fear.
Charles glanced toward the kitchen, catching only half of Yolanda's figure.
Her posture was excellent-her back was always perfectly straight. It was obvious she had taken countless
etiquette lessons as a young lady.
Her face was beautiful, too. Charles thought that if he couldn’t marry the one he loved, then being with Yolanda
wasn't so bad. She was obedient, pure, and sometimes amusing when he
teased her.
“You want a grandchild already?” he asked May with a teasing smile.

May shot him a reproachful look. “If you don’t want kids with Yolanda, then have one with another woman. As

Charles frowned. He had no intention of having a child with any other woman. The only person he had ever
wanted to have a child with was the one he had loved all along.
Back then, he and the Grant family had even made an agreement that Yolanda must not get pregnant. At least in
his eyes, she wasn’t worthy of carrying a Sinclair child.
“If you really want a grandchild, then you'll just have to wait a few more years,” he told May. “Now’s not the
time.”
That reassured May. She knew Charles was probably waiting for the woman he loved to return. She was quite
shocked, actually, that the Grant family had produced such a lovesick fool like her son.
“Forget it, as long as you know what you're doing. This is my only wish,” May said. “I know who you're waiting
for, but don’t forget-when you had that car accident, she abandoned you. Why still hold on to a woman like
that?”
Charles's face instantly darkened.
Renee quickly leaned toward May and said, “Mom, really? It's been two years already, why bring it up again?
Who knows how that woman's doing now? Hopefully she’s rotting abroad somewhere.
“If you ask me, she and Yolanda are the stype-can’t live without a man.”
The woman Charles loved had run off with sbroke guy, and she had done it right when Charles was lying in
a hospital bed after his car crash.
“That's enough.” Charles lifted a hand to rub his temples and stood up to head upstairs. “Don’t ever mention her
again.”
Renee pouted. From the look on his face, she could tell he was still thinking about that
woman.
Too bad that woman didn’t seem to care whether a man was rich or poor-otherwise she wouldn't have chosen a
penniless loser.
At dinner, Yolanda followed the maids, carrying dishes to the table, while everyone else sat neatly at their seats.
But Charles's father, Dylan, didn’t chtonight. Ever since Yolanda had married Charles, Dylan had rarely
been around

Yolanda sat next to Charles. Her stomach hurt, and when she looked at the food on her plate, she couldn't help
but gag a little.
Renee covered her mouth in disbelief, her eyes wide. “Yolanda, don’t tellyou're pregnant.”
Yolanda’s face went a bit pale. She held her fork tightly and said, “It’s just a stomachache.”
She could feel it-the moment Renee said those words, May's expression changed, and Charles had that half-
smile on his face.
Back when Yolanda still had hope for him, she used to ask when they would have a child.
He would always brush her off, saying to wait a little longer. She thought she really could wait. But now she saw
the truth-Charles never intended to let her get pregnant.
“I really just have a stomachache,” Yolanda repeated.
May slowly put down her fork. She glanced at Charles, and since he didn’t say anything, she didn’t press
further.
The mood at the table turned tense. It stayed that way until dinner ended. Just as Yolanda was about to leave,
May asked her, “I heard you're going out to work now?”
“Yeah,” Yolanda said.
“Don’t go to work,” May told her. “Just stay hand take care of Charles.”
Yolanda pressed her lips together, her eyes clear. “There are plenty of maids at hwho can take care of him.”
It was the first tshe ever talked back to May.
May's face darkened, then she gave a cold laugh. “Yolanda, you know I've never been satisfied with you. Your
only value is to take care of Charles.”
Yolanda took a deep breath and asked, “May, anything else?”
The moment she said that, Renee rolled her eyes. “Yolanda, what's that supposed to mean? How can you talk to
my mom like that?
“Don’t you know your allowance every month has to go through her approval? If she doesn’t agree, you won't
get a dnext month.
“You've loved Charles for years, and you're lucky that you married him. If you don’t learn to appreciate it, I'd say
it’s only a matter of tbefore another woman takes your place.”
Yolanda had been neglected for two years. Before, she endured it out of love for Charles, but

tonight she didn’t want to endure anymore.
“It would be wonderful if that woman really shows up,” she said.

Shock flashed across both May and Renee's faces. May slammed the table hard. “How dare you?”
Charles set down his coffee cup and let his gaze fall on Yolanda’s face.
For the past two years, he had been satisfied with her obedience. But now, she had changed.
He stood up and said coolly, “Let's go home. Mom, don’t be upset. | found that emerald bracelet you've always
wanted. I'll have Jack bring it over tomorrow.”
May gave a cold snort and dropped the matter.
Yolanda followed Charles out the door. As she was about to get in the car, she heard him ask, “Are you really
pregnant?”
He spoke while lowering his head to light a cigarette. But then he seemed to think of something and slowly put
the lighter away. “Go to the hospital.”
Yolanda found it almost funny. “If | really am, what would you do?”
For once, annoyance flickered in Charles's eyes. All that gentleness and charm he used to coax her were gone.
He didn’t have to say it. Yolanda already knew the answer.
It felt like a blade had pierced her heart. She had always known he was ruthless, but she never thought he would
be this ruthless.
