(Elena Blackwood’s POV)

“I saw them meet with my own eyes.” Celeste Harrison placed one hand on her head, her face twisted with
disgust. “If he still has something going on with that she-wolf, isn’t he just trying to get on my nerves? Even if
we becmates in nonly, | absolutely can’t stand him disgusting me!”
Her voice rose with each word, the anger radiating from her in waves. | could see the frustration building in her
eyes as she paced back and forth in my healing chamber.
“I'm calling off this arranged mating alliance,” she declared firmly. “There's no way I'm binding myself to
someone connected to Sophia Rivers.”
| noticed the complicated expression crossing Celeste’s face as she spoke. Something about her reaction seemed
deeper than simple disgust.
“What's wrong?” | asked, studying her carefully.
Celeste shook her head, but | could see there was more she wasn’t saying. | decided to focus on the facts first.
“What's the nof the Alpha you were supposed to be mated with?” | asked. “You
mentioned he was surnamed Xavier?”
“Yes, that's right,” Celeste confirmed, her voice still tight with anger. “He goes by Felix. He toldhimself that
he’s the son of the former Riverside City bank president.”
She paused, her brow furrowing as if trying to recall something important.
“Oh! | remember now,” she said suddenly. “The former Riverside City bank president was surnamed Xavier. |
heard my father mention it - he was called Fred Xavier. Could this Felix Xavier be his son?”
The nhitlike a physical blow. Fred Xavier, bank president. Something deep in my mind stirred, a
fragment of memory trying to surface.

Then it cflooding back. The memory | had buried so deep I'd almost forgotten it existed.
It was the day the children were kidn*pped. | was in the van, and | had just regained
consciousness after being taken.
Inside the van, besides me, were five werewolf pups | had never seen before. Their faces were
streaked with tears and terror.
Out of fear, | didn’t dare make a sound. | could only watch through the dirty window as two kidnappers talked to
a man in a raincoat outside the van.
The man in the raincoat spoke in a low, gravelly voice. “Fred Xavier, our goal is only those wealthy pack families’
children. What's with this little girl?”
One of the kidnappers shifted nervously. “Yeah, we're taking this risk, not to go to prison! Now there's one more
person, which equals one more trouble!”
The man in the raincoat was smoking, his face hidden under the hood. “She saw us taking people into the car.
Let her go, and wait for her to tell?”
The kidnappers exchanged worried glances, clearly uncomfortable with the situation.
After sheated discussion between the two kidnappers, the man in the raincoat tossed his cigarette butt to
the ground.
“krrrrirrkg five is kxrkkrkikg, one more is also kx#xxkkxxg,” he said coldly. “Don’t forget, if we don’t get six
million, the bank's deficit can’t be filled. Not only will | be held responsible, but you won't escape either.”
The kidnappers becagitated upon hearing this. One of them spat angrily.
“Damn it, it’s those rich pack families who made the bank lose money! Why should we at the bottom be
responsible!”
His voice grew more vicious. “I've long disliked these wealthy werewolves. This time, I'll let them know what it
means to be rogues not afraid of Alphas!”
Hearing movement inside the van, the man in the raincoat suddenly turned his head toward
us.
My thoughts stopped there, and | returned to reality, my face slightly pale. The memory felt as vivid as if it had
happened yesterday.
Celeste noticed my condition immediately. “Are you okay? You don’t look so good.”

I shook my head quickly, trying to compose myself. “I'm fine...”

But | wasn’t fine. The revelation that Felix Xavier was Fred Xavier's son changed everything. The man who had
orchestrated my k***+k+¥xg as a child was this Alpha’s father.
Just then, my phone rang, interrupting my racing thoughts. Professor Theodore Ashworth’s nappeared on
the screen.
“Professor?” | answered, trying to keep my voice steady.
“Elena, we have a problem,” he said urgently. “Nolan Consortium has suddenly announced the research results
of the neural regeneration serum.”
After a moment of shock, | realized what this meant. Someone had leaked our research data.
“Then I'll go over now,” | said calmly, though my mind was already racing with implications.
| ended the call and looked at Celeste. “I have to go. There's an emergency at the research
institute.”
Inside our institute, chaos reigned. Everyone was caught off guard by Nolan Consortium’s
betrayal.
Although they had funded the research and development of the neural regeneration serum, they hadn't
participated in the actual research of this project.
The development of neural regeneration serum was classified information. All participants had signed
agreements that they couldn’t say a word about it.
Now that Nolan Consortium had made the research results public and released the serum ahead of schedule, it
was nothing but a devastating loss for our institute.
Before | arrived, the senior researchers had been questioning Sophia Rivers. After all, Nolan Consortium had
sponsored the project for her sake.
It couldn't be ruled out that she was working with them behind our backs.
Just as Sophia seemed at a loss for how to answer their accusations, | walked in from
outside.
All eyes fell on me. The tension in the room was palpable.
Sophia's eyes turned cold, and she couldn't wait to divert the trouble away from herself.
“The research results are the responsibility of Chief Healer Blackwood,” she said with false

innocence. “No one knows the results better than her!”
