After Amber Stone left, | remained motionless for a full minute before taking a deep breath. | knelt beside Marcus

with an expressionless face, treating him as an ordinary patient.

When | removed the glass shards, | could hear his slightly rapid breathing. He didn’t make a sound despite the

pain.

After applying moonlight herb healing salve, | carefully bandaged his wound. My hands moved with practiced

precision, wrapping the gauze around his palm.

Marcus stared directly at my face. A faint smile played at the corners of his lips as he asked, “Shall we talk?”

After a few seconds of hesitation, | looked down while packing the medical kit. “No.”

He softly called my name. “Elena.”

The moment | looked up in confusion, he leaned closer. He brushed past my lips like a dragonfly touching water.

| froze instantly. Then | pushed him away and slapped his jaw.

His head turned slightly to the side. He touched the spot | struck, not angry but smiling instead.

“Psycho!” | quickly left the bedroom.

Before | slammed the door shut heavily, | saw Marcus press his bandaged hand to his lips. He was kising the knot

When Nathan Sterling returned to the Southern Territory Grand Hotel, he encounteredat the entrance.

| traced my finger across his chest, penetrating his clothing. | smiled as | asked, “But what good did it do?

Because of who you were, Marcus didn’t even consider you a romantic rival.”

“Would Elena want to kill you if she knew that you helped cover up the attack on her parents and delayed

their emergency medical transport?”

These words tore at Nathan's heart like daggers. He violently pushedaway, causingto nearly fall off

the sofa.

| recovered and laughed angrily. “Are you ashamed and angry? You chose to conspire withand now blame

me.”

“Shut up!” he roared.

| ignored the fury in his eyes and slowly stood up. “I'll shut up if you helpwith something.”

When Nathan coldly asked, “Are you shameless?” | threatened, “Or Ill tell Elena the truth.”

This provoked him to grab my throat. | fearlessly challenged him, “Stranglethen. You won't risk your

future when you've gained nothing.”

After releasing me, | gasped for air on the sofa. Nathan asked, “What do you want to do?”

the girl who saved him back then, though Marcus doesn’t know this.”

“I'm currently safe only because I'm impersonating the girl who saved him. But if Marcus discovers that Elena

was that girl, you would have no chance.”

| declared with maniacal determination, “I won't allow Elena to have what | can’t get. Marcus will eventually

discover my deception, but I'll ensure he never learns Elena was his savior.”

Thinking of Dr. Ashworth’s attitude toward Elena, Nathan finally unclenched his fists. “This is the last time.”

(Marcus Blackwood’s POV)

Two days later, | dined with Director James Mitchell from Lunar Pharmaceuticals at Moonstone Ridge Restaurant.

Director Mitchell noticed the bandage on my hand.

“What happened to your injury?” he asked.

| casually mentioned, “It was a small accident.”

When he asked about the bandage, | said, “My mate tied it.”

Despite the bandage being somewhat dirty and stained, | was reluctant to change it.

Director Mitchell joked, “Your mating bond seems like a honeymoon phase. You treasure even the dirty bandage.

Your mate would be touched.”

My smile faded slightly. | wondered if she would indeed be touched. | believed she would be eventually.

After drinking more red wine with Director Mitchell and spending another half hour together, we left

separately.

As | got into my car, Amber Stone informedof important news. “Sophia arrived in the Southern Territory two

days ago and has joined Professor Andrew's research team.”

My face remained shadowed with gloom as | processed Amber's report. The thought of Sophia being

anywhere near Elena made my wolf restless with protective fury.

“Have our pack members secretly monitor Sophia Rivers,” | instructed Amber Stone, my voice cold and

commanding. “Ensure she can’t get close to Elena.”

Amber nodded immediately. “Understood, Alpha. I'll arrange surveillance right away.”

“Make sure they're discrete,” | added, my jaw clenched tight. “I don’t want Elena to know about this yet.”

The last thing | needed was for Sophia to manipulate another situation to her advantage.
